I don't think much can be gained by parsing what Trump has said. He's not precise in how he speaks. He was just trying to signal in a general way his support for tougher immigration enforcement.

As for progs saying he's racist. So what? They say that about everyone they don't like. It has no more meaning than a sneer.

The intent of this thread was to clarify what exactly Trump did and did not say in that famous quote. There has been confusion where the left is confident that Trump called all Mexicans rapists, so we needed clarification. Do you see anywhere in his quote where he called all Mexicans rapists or criminals?

No he didn't. Even with his terrible speaking skills he is talking about the drugs and rapists... not all Mexicans. "They" are the ones that are. If one is a rapist that one falls into the "they" that he, we, do not want entering the USA.

When lefties refuse to differentiate between legal and illegal immigrants, it makes it really hard to have proper communication. Since you left off the word illegal in your post, I have no choice but to assume that you have just spoken of ALL Mexicans.

I didn't say all Mexicans.

I am specifically talking about Mexicans that are immigrating from Mexico to the US. He made it seem like the majority of that group were rapists, criminals, and drug dealers.

No lefty will ever be able to win on this one, since he never actually said what the left claims he said. Trump's quote is right there in the OP, for everybody to see, and nobody here can EVER dispute what he really did say. Lefties will keep saying that he said something that he didn't, just like moths will keep flying into the flame.

That is the group we are referring to so when we talk about that group we are talking about all the Mexicans of that group. My statement about your comment is referring to all Mexicans in the group trying to come from Mexico. That is also what Trump is referring to and this thread starter is obtuse.

That is not a specific group. There are legal Mexican immigrants, and then there are illegal Mexican immigrants. It is offensive to me and several members of my family when you do not differentiate between the two groups, since it marginalizes legal immigrants when you refer to illegals the same way.

It is not offensive... you are being needlessly defensive.

Both legal and illegal immigrants are immigrants and that is the specific group being addressed.

Perhaps. Either way, Trump never said that all Mexicans are rapists or criminals, nor did he say that most Mexicans are rapists or criminals. That is the point of this thread. Now we all know what exactly Trump DID say, and we know what he DID NOT say. Lefties can post all kinds of stuff to dodge on this, but they will NEVER be able to show where in that famous quote he said that all or most Mexicans are rapists or criminals. The only thing that lefties can post is what they want him to have said, even though he did not.

Okay, but I still didn't say all Mexicans from that group either. I said majority.

When Trump made this statement:

“When Mexico sends its people, they’re not sending their best. They’re not sending you. They’re not sending you. They’re sending people that have lots of problems, and they’re bringing those problems with us. They’re bringing drugs. They’re bringing crime. They’re rapists. And some, I assume, are good people.”

He is making it seem like the vast majority (not all) of them are criminals and rapists. While only a few are "good people".

No he isn't. He is saying that there are rapists in that group. That drug mules and MS13 is in that group. That in that group we are not getting skilled workers or intellectuals instead in that group we are getting uneducated illiterate migrants.

I am not denying that he is talking about those kinds of people in that group.

What I am saying, is that Trump is making it seem like the vast majority of that group are drug mules and rapists.

This is true. That is what his statement implied. He should have been much more precise. He should have said that the majority truly are coming here (albeit illegally) just looking for the opportunity to work (doing jobs Americans apparently cant/wont do) and that a minority but not an insignificant number of them are here committing crimes. Heck...he could have even supported that statement with the federal statistics showing the extraordinarily high number of illegal immigrants in prison for committing violent crimes NOT related to their immigration status. THAT would have been much more clear.
