I know the election is over, but I wanted to sort out exactly what Trump said way back when he announced. I still see references to Trump's famous quote during his announcement speech where people are still using that quote to imply that Trump is a racist, or that he stated that ALL Mexicans are rapists, or that he said anything at all about ALL Mexicans. It is time to establish what exactly he said, who exactly he was talking about, and who he was NOT talking about. Many folks want very badly for him to have said certain things, so let's look at what in fact he really did say.

First, here is the exact quote:

“When Mexico sends its people, they’re not sending their best. They’re not sending you. They’re not sending you. They’re sending people that have lots of problems, and they’re bringing those problems with us. They’re bringing drugs. They’re bringing crime. They’re rapists. And some, I assume, are good people.”

In the first sentence, he is talking about people who he alleges that Mexico sends, and he has excluded "Mexico's best" from the people who he is talking about. This first sentence clearly shows that Trump was not commenting on "all" Mexicans, just the people who Mexico sends who are not also not Mexico's best.

Ok, next sentence. "They're not sending you, they're not sending you", sounds like it is open to interpretation, but the one thing we do know is that he is not talking about Mexico's best, or all Mexicans.

The next sentence really narrows things down as far as who he is talking about. "They're sending people who have lots of problems, and they are bringing those problems with us." Here, he has narrowed down who he is talking about to people Mexico sends, who are not Mexico's best, certainly not every Mexican everywhere, and who are bringing problems. His grammar is pretty screwed up with the "us" thing, but it does not appear he is intending on including "us" as who he is talking about.

This next part is not describing who he is talking about, but tells us some of the "problems" of the people who Mexico sends who are bringing problems. "They're bringing drugs, They're bringing crime. They're rapists." Those problems that this isolated group of people who are not Mexico's best, not you, not all Mexicans, and who have problems, do sound pretty bad, so I am sure glad that Trump brought these things up. These things need to be brought up and be handled.

Last sentence: "And some I assume, are good people." It was pretty generous that Trump added this on, considering the kinds of problems that this isolated group of people are bringing. He assumes that some of these people who Mexico sends who are not Mexico's best, not you, not all Mexicans, and who are bringing such problems are actually good people.

Now we know who Trump was talking about:
An isolated group of people who Mexico sends who are not Mexico's best, not you, and who bring lots of problems.

Now we know who he was not talking about:
He was not talking about Mexico's best, or all Mexicans, or you.

Re: All Mexicans and rapists

Yep. And Hillary didn't call all of Trump's supporters deplorables. Politics is about scoring points. It has nothing to do with the truth.

It was Trumps first official foray into politics and what he said and how he said it was incredibly un-politic. The guy made a multitude of verbal mistakes, but in the end, people chose his message over his miscues.

I foresee this thread ending well

Athough he did make it seem like the majority of people immigrating from Mexico were rapists and criminals.

When lefties refuse to differentiate between legal and illegal immigrants, it makes it really hard to have proper communication. Since you left off the word illegal in your post, I have no choice but to assume that you have just spoken of ALL Mexicans. Anyway, please show me where in his famous quote, he even made a reference to "the majority of people immigrating from Mexico".

Re: All Mexicans and rapists

Do you forsee this thread ending at a point where somebody is able to accurately show how Trump's famous quote shows that he called all Mexicans, or Mexico's best, rapists?

Re: All Mexicans and rapists

Someone here is in love with the sound of their own voice, apparently.

So, Trump is a lefty? I see no distinction between legals and illegals in that quote. I do see a rather bizarre claim that Mexico is somehow deliberately picking people to send to us, as if there is a specific intent on the part of Mexico (it's government? it's people? Who knows?) to deport bad people to America.

Your defense is what, exactly? He meant something else but said it instead, because he's a spastic imbecile who hates words or something?

You tried to start a thread to attack leftists but all you succeeded in doing is reminding us that we had evidence from the very beginning that Trump doesn't belong anywhere near the hot seat. Fasten your seatbelt, check the crash helmet, and pray.

You do realize that not all Mexicans are immigrating from Mexico, right? Ergo, her statement that Trump made it see like the majority of people immigrating from Mexico in no way implies ALL Mexicans, yes? Or is that logic too "lefty" for you?

.

The intent of this thread was to clarify what exactly Trump did and did not say in that famous quote. There has been confusion where the left is confident that Trump called all Mexicans rapists, so we needed clarification. Do you see anywhere in his quote where he called all Mexicans rapists or criminals?

Re: All Mexicans and rapists

When he says he is talking to border patrol agents, does that imply interaction with legal or illegal immigrants? When he talks about building a wall is that to inhibit the passage of legal or illegal immigrants?

There can be no question...dood could have used an actual speechwriter and teleprompter. He has a list of things he means to talk on and he just speaks..off the cuff...like people would do at a bar or hanging out just talking politics. His verbiage is clumsy...and sometimes just downright wrong.

This was his announcement of his intent to run for president and in it he waxed on about the different problems that he saw needing a solution. He was inarticulate and one of his many failings is that he lacks the grace to be able to stand up and say "I was wrong when I said ____" or "When I said this what I meant was _______ and I just didnt articulate the point clearly."

I didn't see anywhere in TheGoverness' quote where she referred to ALL Mexicans.

Trump's quote was about people immigrating to America from Mexico, and he made no distinction between legal and illegal immigrants. TheGoverness simply pointed out that his statement made it seem like the majority of Mexican immigrants were rapists and criminals. Those are immigrants, not ALL Mexicans.

Is that logic too "lefty" for you to grasp?

Re: All Mexicans and rapists

Bad choice of words on his part, and what he has to live with. He has to learn to think before he talks.

lol, yeah right. We just rewarded his lack of thinking before he talks with the highest office in the land.

Of course he never said all mexicans are rapists. Look...the rat party was going to make this election about racism, sexism, and class warfare no matter who ran. Trump made their job easy...thats all.

Trump has a 4 decade history of providing support to the black and latino communities. There is plenty of video footage of minority community leaders lauding his ACTUAL efforts in working with the black and latino communities Yet black voters were convinced he is racist against blacks (and Ive yet to see a single individual offer evidence of this). Trump came out in support of gay rights in 2000 and has always supported homosexual friendly causes. He has stated plainly that the gay marriage issue is settled law. Yet...the LGBT community were convinced he is anti-gay. READ: Donald Trump's Advocate Interview Where He Defends Gays, Mexicans | Advocate.com He has never said mexicans are bad, mexicans are evil, but he HAS said that the mexican government is not invested in stopping illegal immigration because they profit from illegal immigration. He never said he is anti Muslim...he said we shouldnt be bringing people into the country without properly being vetted (and his comments were supported by people like Jeh Johnson and Jim Comey when they stated quite clearly we CANNOT properly vet Syrian refugees) and that a large percentage of Muslims dont like us. Thats the extent of his 'racism'.

And this, ladies n' gents, is how you detect a troll thread: the poster who creates it sets up a straw position in the OP, then ignores all responses that are on point (responses that usually explain the fallacies in the OP), and then just keeps asking the same question over and over again, of everyone who responded.

Where did I say he said all Mexicans?

I very clearly said Trump was making it seem like the majority of people immigrating from Mexico were rapists, criminals, and drug dealers.

Ah, whatever. Why am I even bothering with you?

Re: All Mexicans and rapists

"“When Mexico sends its people"

Mexico doesn't send its people. Trump is an idiot. these people are making individual decisions based on their self interest

are they the best? maybe. maybe not. I tend to think they are better then those that sit around and complain. what they are are risk takers looking to make a better life for themselves.

not that a country can't control borders, but I'm not going to vilify individuals looking to improve their standing either

Do you believe the mexican government is invested in and in fact aiding its citizens in coming here illegally? DO you see the mexican government working hard to prevent illegal immigration? (ooops...I should have clarified...illegal immigration FROM mexico TO the US. We KNOW the mexican government is invested fighting illegal immigrants coming into THEIR country.
