First, the poll cited is about 3 weeks old, so its not current. More importantly, its a poll of people that watched the SOTU, not voters. The SOTU was watched largely be Trump supporters, with most people taking a pass. This makes it a poll largely of Trump supporters, hence not relevant.

True, but that’s not what is happening. What is happening is that:

Power is being taken from the US and ceded to China by eliminating functions like USAID, VOA, Radio Free Asia, etc. China is literally celebrating these actions. Yes, I know people whine about foreign aid and think we give too much but when we are compared with other countries based on a percentage of income we were way down the list. Now of course we are scrapping the bottom.

US universities are being attacked resulting in less funding for higher education as well as basic and applied research. Meanwhile, China started graduating more advanced degrees than the U.S. in 2007 and graduate nearly double the U.S. now. Trump is putting us further behind as those numbers are already falling because of Trump’s actions. That’s certainly no recipe for success in the future.

The IRS is being gutted to eliminate recently upgraded functions that would audit the wealthy donors that the administration is not only beholden to but have infiltrated the government so that they have almost total control. The functions that are being eliminated return 12 times their cost to the government. That’s what is retuned for auditing a wealthy taxpayer vs auditing an average person where the return is a wash.

Cuts in HHS will result in problems with new drug development, pandemic response, bird flu response, and numerous other health consequences.

Inspectors General and other watchdogs who are charged with finding and reporting waste, fraud and abuse in the government are being eliminated because this administration wants ZERO oversight.

Changes at the VA will hurt our Veterans. Even Trump sycophant Sen. Lindsey Graham of South Carolina, the Republican chair of the Senate Budget Committee, was displeased the VA had not given lawmakers an advance notification of the changes, saying it was “political malpractice not to consult Congress.” “Maybe you’ve got a good reason to do it,” he said. “But we don’t need to be reading memos in the paper about a 20% cut at the VA.”

I could continue but in general, it’s a hot mess with no real thought given to the consequences.

I haven’t even discussed the fact that much of the savings being claimed is bogus.

DOGE is not a bad idea but it should be run by someone like Mitt Romney who actually knows how it should be done!

I don't think that prospect is looking good at this point in time. People (including Democrats) aren't very happy with how the Democrats in Congress are doing. They are dealing with a lot of in-fighting between the "Young Radicals" and the "Old Guard."

Over these next four years, I would love nothing more than to see young progressives pull a Tea Party-style revolution and cut the legs out from under the neo-liberal Democratic Old Guard, tearing it apart and reform the Democratic Party into an FDR-style progressive populist political party once again. The Democratic leadership who have spent too long catering to donors and listening to the idiot consultant class need to be thrown out of both office and leadership.

The American people need a party that actually fights for them and fulfills their needs.
