Deegan said:This was the most disgusting display of partisan politics I have ever seen. What gives these politicians the right to turn a funeral in to a Democratic campaign convention? I was just watching the news, and felt I had to speak about this shame on our country today, I am truly sick to my stomach. First, 4 presidents attend this funeral of the wife of Martin Luther King, and Bush is fed to the lions. I want to know why this funeral was so important in the first place, since when have we given so much credence to the wife of a great man, and where will it end. I have not a single recollection of a wife ever receiving such an honor, or if they did, having it turn in to a disgusting political circus?
I just wanted some thoughts on this from others here, at this moment, I can barely even admit I am an American, much less be proud of that fact. This country has gone down the toilet, and it's getting worse by the day.

But if you dont want to be seen as one of the TOT type conservatives that give good conservatives a bad name, then dont align yourself with a redirect that was not meant for you. But hey, if you want to be part of that crowd, then accept the statement as being true to you too...makes no nevermind to me. But anyway, thanks for that link, it was very informative.

Ok, I did not see the funeral. However, I read a couple of articles about it and what was said by those in attendance. Under most circumstances, it would be pretty tacky. However, Coretta Scott King spoke out against the War in Iraq on several occasions. Coretta Scott King spoke out against many of the Bush Administrations domestic policies / agenda on numerous occasions. Especially the Bush Administrations attempts to destroy Affirmative Action. Martin Luther King was strong anti-War advocate. Martin Luther King was an avowed Socialist. He was a strong supporter of the Great Society. He was also the victim of an Executive Branch using wiretaps against him without Judicial Oversight. The Bush Administration has been at ideological odds with much of what Coretta Scott King and Martin Luther King promoted.

It already exists...Deegan said:And I can certainly appreciate that, but as you said, "she spoke for these things" she certainly does not need others to speak for her, or to turn her final farewell, in to a three ring circus. Tacky? That does not begin to describe this outrage, we may have to come up with a brand new word for this atrocious behavior!

Kandahar said:Yes, god forbid anyone tells the truth. A reasonable assessment of our situation in Iraq must mean that we hate America.

Why in the hell should I give Clinton credit for doing what was expected of him?
Good Clinton that's a good boy you sh!t outside and not on the carpet way to go that's a good boy, that's a good boy.
What's next on his list of stupid pet tricks? Is he going to lie to me and kiss my ass? After all I am a voter.

hipsterdufus said:I think the people at the funeral appreciated the event - Clinton got a two minute standing ovation. At least Bush didn't get booed like he did at the pope's funeral.
Activism is what the Kings' life was all about! If the boy in the bubble can't take it, he should have stayed home, like Cheney did.
Oh yeah - Cheney voted against establishing MLK day as a holiday, I guess that's why he wasn't there.
Coretta would have loved it my friend!
Deegan said:Somehow I can't see King, or his wife taking enjoyment in shaming a man who took the time to attend their dinner party, much less their funeral. Please don't now try and smear the good name of these people........OMG, it's started already!
hipsterdufus said:Bush has a 2% approval rating amongst African Americans. Are you kidding me?
Deegan said:King was the kind of man that would respect another human being enough to not shame him at an event he invited him, much less one he did not. This has nothing to do with 2% of African Americans, and everything to do with a man who fought for what he deserved through intelligent debate, peaceful protest, and religious convictions, everything this three ring circus was not!
Come now professor, I don't have to hold your hand here, you know this was not a honor for this important family. This was just a lame attempt at stealing this intense spotlight, and using a funeral to score black votes, some for the Democrats, some for the good reverend and his collection plate, he even had the nerve to mention it in his rhetoric!
hipsterdufus said:I'm not certain that Bush was invited. I know that he did change his mind at the last minute to attend.
The dream of social and racial equality pursued by the Kings is far from reality.
This funeral was a rare opportunity for people that disagree with the boy in the bubble to challenge him face to face.
If MLK was alive today my guess is that he would be lambasting W on the Iraq war, the response to Hurricane Katrina and warrantless wiretaps. The message at the funeral was right on the money.
Why don't you ask the people who were THERE! Did they look upset? Every black person I talked to loved the event. The only one's squirming where Bubble Boy and his wife.
I would have loved to have been a fly on the wall of the limo as the president left.
