68% Oppose Cities That Give ?Sanctuary? To Illegal Immigrants - Rasmussen Reports

Friday, October 30, 2009

San Francisco has long prided itself on being a “sanctuary city” that refuses to work with federal authorities to identify and deport illegal immigrants. But now city officials are arguing over how far that policy should go when some of those illegal immigrants are charged with murder and other serious crimes.

New Rasmussen Reports national telephone polling finds that most Americans oppose sanctuary cities and think their policies lead to an increase in crime. A solid plurality say such cities, including New York, Washington, D.C. and many others, should lose government funding because of their sanctuary policies.

Given consistent findings that Americans overwhelmingly support efforts to crackdown on illegal immigration, it’s not surprising that 68% of U.S. voters oppose the creation of sanctuary cities. Only 13% favor the creation of cities that give safe haven to illegal immigrants. Nineteen percent (19%) are not sure.

Forty-nine percent (49%) say federal and state government funds should be cut off to cities that provide sanctuary to illegal immigrants. Thirty-three percent (33%) disagree and oppose any funding cutoff. Eighteen percent (18%) aren’t sure.

I find no fault in this story other than the P.C. misuse of the term illegal immigration when illegal Alien is the proper term.
This poll and many others like show that it's time to act to stop Obama and the Socialist/Communists in Washington that any type of amnesty will not be accepted.
In 1986 we were lied to about what was going to happen to those who violated the law by employing illegal with fines and even jail. But nothing changed and the three and a half million we were told were here turned out to be closer to eight million and the same is happening now.
Places and the people in San Francisco and other cities like it are hurting not only the cities but the States and Nation as a whole making a joke out of the rule of law. They are saying in essence that if enough people break the law it's okay no harm no foul.

...the P.C. misuse of the term illegal immigration when illegal Alien is the proper term.

Uhhh...

The immigrated here.

They did so illegally.

Therefore don't you think the term Illegal Immigrant sounds perfectly accurate? It does to me... as opposed to PC as I am, this doesn't sound like a PC push at all.

"Illegal immigrant" is a proper, politically neutral term. "Illegal alien" is probably acceptable, but clearly biased towards our side of the fence.

If you want PC garbage, look for "undocumented worker." As if they had not deliberately broken our immigration laws, and that it's our own fault that we don't have a record of them entering the country, and that every last one of them is actually here to work. (Yeah, most of them are. Better rates than natives. I know this. But it's not like they're flooding the cities to make sure no job goes undone...)

The only way I see as it stands right now is to cut federal funding to cities and towns that harbor illegals in anyway. Denying illegals any type of refuge, they will self deport.

I seen some pro-illegals refer to illegals as "undocumented Americans". Undocumented workers sounds like some neighbor's kid mowing lawns for cash or someone working under the table.

i think amnesty is THE way to go. use the money saved to shore up the borders and to deport undesirable illegals.

They're all undesirable. If they were desirable, they could have gotten in legally.

Why is it we are supposed to respect everybody else's sovereignity, and ignore our own?

Why is it we are supposed to respect everybody else's sovereignity, and ignore our own?

Because we are supposed to venerate the weak and scorn the mighty. We were born in the most powerful nation ever to darken the face of planet Earth, and it's all our fault.

The last time they did a massive amnesty it legalized 3 million illegals and encouraged 12-20 more to come here illegally with the promise of enforcement. Fool me once shame on you fool me twice shame on me.

At least one State is getting serious about it...
