A landmark ruling from a federal judge in Utah striking down key parts of the state's polygamy laws handed a legal victory to polygamist families across the state — but the battle might not be over.

U.S. District Judge Clark Waddoups said in the decision handed down Friday that a provision in Utah's bigamy law forbidding cohabitation with another person violated the First Amendment, which guarantees the freedom of religion.

The ruling was cheered by Kody Brown and his four wives, who star in the hit TLC cable TV reality show "Sister Wives," and other fundamentalist Mormons who believe polygamy brings exaltation in heaven. The Brown family filed their lawsuit in July 2011 and fled Utah for Las Vegas last year under the threat of prosecution.

Here are five key things to know about the ruling:.....snip~

What do you think about this new Land Mark Ruling concerning polygamy? I didn't know they had a show about a guy being married to multiple wives and was Mormon that was on Cable TV. So by Law he is still legally married to one. But Spiritually Married to the others.

So how do you gentleman feel about that? Should other states adopt some of this Utah law? What do you think it would be like to be married to 4 or 5 women all living in the same house with you? Do you think you could handle 4 or 5 women? Would there be a ranking?

What about you Ladies.....what do you think? Could you deal with sharing a guy with 4 or 5 other women in the same house? Deal with 4 other women in your kitchen? :2razz:

It seems odd that religion should play a part in this ruling. Having the government define an action as a crime for some yet allowed for others seems to violate the 14th amendment. It seems that freedom of religion means that one can freely choose a relligion, switch religions, agree to be partially religious or even establish a new religion for themselves.

This also applies to the PPACA mandate nonsense, IMHO. If some are given a pass then why not everyone? If all I need do is say that I am religious to get cheaper insurance, then count me as one of the flock. ;)

EDIT: Whoops - this post was meant to be an edit of post #2.

Good evening MMC

I can't take credit for this, and I apologize for not remembering the person who posted it on another thread, but it's really interesting to me how this may relate to a bisexual individual and how his/her rights may be impacted by having to choose only a male or female spouse when sexually they'd prefer to have a little of both and why does government stop them from that fulfillment in life.

Yeah but I guess they had written it up as Co habitation was illegal. Which That couldn't be applied to just religion. Hence First Amendment citing.....Right?

Evenin' CJ. How so if it for a male and 4 or 5 other women all connected to him? Do you think you could handle living with 4 or 5 women all under one roof?

Good morning MMC,

No, not me - but say you're bisexual and you have equal sexual desires for both men and women and you meet a bisexual woman who likewise has equal sexual desires for both women and men. Why not have the government sanction a four-fer marriage - two bisexual women and two bisexual men - so that each can have their desired gender partner whenever they choose?

Since the only difference between traditional marriage - man and woman - and same sex marriage is the type of sex the partners prefer, if you codify traditional and same sex marriage why not go the distance and codify the combination variety?

Mornin' CJ. :2wave: That is understandable that it could be viewed that way.....but just looking at the norm of the genders is where I was looking. One man having 4-5 wives. Or One woman having 4 or 5 men.

I don't think it can play out to much with men reversing the role and 4 or 5 of them being married to one woman.

Even the Arabs have those that have many wives. Now with a Shiek he could have a hundred wives. As well as some of them being Minors.

I thought we would have had some of our DP ladies thoughts on this too. Never know some women might like the Idea of other women dealing with their man, and giving them their own time to do whatever.

Mornin Ttwtt. :2wave: 1) But could you see yourself living with 4-5 women as your wives? 2) How would you feel if 4 or 5 women all wanted to be with you and were willing to live with each other and you as man and wife?

1) No. There are thousands of things that are not illegal that I would not do and several things that are illegal that I would do.

2) Confused. Do you really think that "reality" show is about reality?

No I am not.....nor was I going by the TV Show. Moreso the offshoots of Mormonism and Others who walk around in the World with multiple Wives.

Myself I don't see how all the women could be in love with a guy and want to be with him. Sharing him with other women.

Hell I don't see how these guys marry one woman on one side of the country and then marry another on the otherside. Live completely separate lives with both.

Could be - but those women would probably just prefer the lesbian relationship - or perhaps, that's what they get along with a man to provide the other necessities of life.

Well, I wouldn't think women from the ME were into the lesbian thing to much.....Course being the Leader of a tribe I guess one would be like Royalty for a male to choose.

Myself.....I never heard that to much about Mormon women. Nothing other than the religious sense.

Not that I couldn't say it never happened.....as then what if the husband told his wives he wanted to see them be together sexually. Being a religious cult.....I think they would do it rather than be put out of the so called marriage.

There is something called Menstrual synchrony. When multiple women share the same space their menstrual cycles tend to all hit at the same time. It's something that is very common among mothers and daughters. It's no secret that during this time the change in hormones causes swings in mood/emotions in women. Some cases the changes are so great that even the woman has difficulty putting up with herself let alone anyone else. And it's those moments she can become a real challenge to love. Can you imagine what it is like in a household where there are four wives and a half dozen teenage daughters all on their periods at the same time? OMG

I would have to do like the Arab Shieks do it Vesper.....all the Wives and children would have to live on the other side of the Compound. Way over on that side >>>>>>>>>>>>> Plus.....just think the Wives don't have to do any cleaning then. Due to other house staff.

This way there is no losing the remote control.

So how do you think it would be with 4 other women trying to control your kitchen and competing for the hubby's time?

Oh there would be no way that would be acceptable and IMO anyone who would agree to such a thing is nuts. And the saddest part of it are the young girls that are being conditioned to believe this is their lot in life to be in a relationship that is a marriage contract sharing a husband (not recognized by government) to produce children which amounts to being just another cow for the prize bull.

I knew this one guy......he was married. But he had to work all over the World. Be gone for long lengths of time. But he had women all over the place.

Myself I cannot see it.....as only one can make up the whole. Spiritually and being the other half of another.

In some ways that's even worse than practicing it all under one roof because the other spouses aren't aware of the other women.

We need to get Rastafarians in the courts!

So Jah seh.

Challenge weed laws.

All these people getting their panties wet over stuff like Birth control and Obama care is silly, but we can at least put the trend to good use.

If we can justify about everything on first amendment religious grounds, we can get all sorts of progress made :)

Polygamy could be summed up in the line from the song Mambo #5 "a little bit of you makes me your man". For the life of me I do not understand women in the 21st century willingly accepting a marriage arrangement like the Brown's. Unbelievable.........
