5 lyric song guess

Queen singing lazing on a Sunday afternoon! Maybe?
That’s a really good guess, but it’s not exactly the same. The Queen lyric to that zany “Lazing on a Sunday Afternoon” goes, “I’m just an ordinary guy.”

However, you bring up a great point. For the sake of being transparent, my song lyric is different in the two times it’s sung in the chorus. The first time, it goes, “Or just an ordinary guy” while the second time it’s “And just an ordinary guy.” There are the clues…

I can't place it at the moment.

Not getting it yet, but I'll keep thinking, and see if I come up with anything. Not likely, but I'll see...

I’m heading out of town for a funeral, so I may not be posting or checking on this thread for a few days. Maybe until Sunday. So if anybody posts some guesses, please be patient with me until I return.

Thanks in advance!

To move things along a little, the song is from 1975. 😉
You might have seen earlier our esteemed fellow member consented to 21 questions. If you do too, I'll ask the first,

Was this recorded by a band or a solo artist?

Sure, absolutely. There are so many song lyrics that completely stump me, that I like that kind of game.

Band. (And a rather unique band, at that.)

Ok, so far we know

1975
Band
“Or just an ordinary guy” while the second time it’s “And just an ordinary guy.

2. was this band based / formed in The US?

Edit-. Yes no question

"Alright, alright, alright, alright, alright."

Yes. (If you know this band well, it had notable musical compositions in both New York and Los Angeles.)

Everyone can jump in for a question, Don't hesitate, -

3. Is it a track by the tubes?

No, not by Fee Waybill and The Tubes. Good band, though.

I’m going to give you a clue to help with the “band,” because it’s only fair. There’s one main artist group that consists of a static duo, with other musicians filling in as the band members, and it’s not Hall & Oates. That should get you the group.

It says guess,

4. Is the group Simon and Garfunkel?

Steely Dan?
Yes, the song is by Steely Dan! Well done. I was actually listening to this particular song when I guessed “Locomotion” and posted it. It’s always been one of my favorite tunes, with the back story on the lyrics by Donald Fagen being particularly interesting.

It’s a song very rarely played live.

Getting the group was pretty easy, with your clues. And I had thought of them yesterday, anyway, with your 'unique' comment. The song however.....
