All immigrants are tested for infectious diseases before they are approved. Perhaps they contracted the disease in the US.

Possibly. But the probabilities stretch credulity somewhat.
 
The test for tuberculosis has been around since 1907. It is relatively simple to do and largely foolproof. The problem with TB is that it can take years to show up. "...Most people infected with the germ that causes TB never develop active TB. If active TB does develop, it can occur two to three months after infection or years later. The risk of active disease lessens as time passes. When and for how long is a person able to spread tuberculosis?

Oh reallly? Are we quarantining these refugees for the 24+ hours it takes to do a TB test? What are we doing with the ones that test positive, sending them back? Enlighten us please.

Leftists don't have the slightest flippin clue what the process is. The more foreigners on welfare the taxpayer foots the bill for the better. They would cut their throats if Global Granny told them too.
 
Minneapolis has had its rises and falls with TB for a long time. As I have talked about before, it has a very large Somali immigrant population, and has had occasional flairs ever since then, for decades.

Also, note that the OP's number comes from 4 years cumulatively. So that's, what, 70 people a year, in a city that took more Somali immigrants than any other in the country by a mile? Not bad.

The good news is these flairs seem to self-isolate and always seem to be primarily composed of previously caught infections that emerged late, probably for several reasons: obviously a first-world standard of hygiene is one, and a lot of the local clinics also do TB screening and treatment (even colleges -- my college did).

There has been no significant issue of spread. All healthcare workers in MN are tested for TB, so we are able to keep very good records of what rare occurrences may happen (and it does seem to be pretty much exclusively medical personnel, and very rare even then).

People just generally treat this as what it is: a nuisance problem that we can totally deal with, without anyone panicking over nothing or dying. TB is treatable, curable, and preventable. It is also very rare, even in MN.

In other words, there is nothing new about this, for Minneapolis. It will continue to be a minor nuisance that continues to have no significant impact on the population's health, because we have simply done what we need to in order to address the issue. To us, it is worth it to be one of the most humanitarian cities in the country. We have a long and mostly positive history with the Somalis, and keeping a few vials of TB vaccines and meds around is a minor sacrifice. There's no reason we can't continue to have good public health, with this population that has particular needs.

As a matter of fact, Minneapolis is the healthiest city in the entire country.
