As I recall, a lot of people put certain rights to privacy/etc over the rights of little children to live, now. Roe v Wade.
Just sayin'.
Just being the devil's advocate here. The world would be a whole lot better if that Adam Lanza had been aborted. Hard but true.
I work in a place that has secured entrances, including bullet resistant glass and armed police officers....and there are no young lives being protected there. There was some security at the school, but it failed. There was obviously an inadequate response to the breakdown in security. Taking guns away from the general public is not going to stop this senseless violence, so we should be looking at how to mitigate it, deter it, and respond to it in a manner which reduces the risk to the lives of the innocent.
Hey. Ye of one clue. I have not advocated taking away anyone's guns. That you may work in a pillbox does not mean that such can possibly be the solution to our vulnerable schools. How long will that retrofit take ?
There was no security breakdown in Newtown, btw. None.
I am willing to place the parents comments into proper perspective of a grieving parent, and not one in the perspective in which we should make laws about. But I digress. This morning, one of the parents of one of the children that was brutally murdered by gunshot, through tears, talked about the need for Americans to take action and do something to prevent anther shooting tragedy. Are you prepared to call him a nut? Uncaring? Insincere?
No, it looks like you're trying to derail the thread. Just sayin. As I recall, a lot of people put certain rights to privacy/etc over the rights of little children to live, now. Roe v Wade.

Single-issue obsessives add nothing to political discourse.
He's not intentionally trolling when he tries to make it about abortion. To him and people like him, discussing any other issue derails discussion about abortion, which is the only thing that matters to them.
No, he's just pointing out that you can't have political discourse with people who only pretend to care about children's right to life.
Is it true the killer's mother was a survivalist?
Is it also true the killer wasn't let in and that he broke a window to get in, instead?
When someone refuses to acknowledge the difference between a first trimester fetus with no self-awareness and a sweet, joyful 6 year old ... their pleas that they are the only ones who really care for children fall on deaf ears.

Not sure on the first,
But as far as the window goes, they say he used half a magazine to cut a walkthrough hole through the window. He was met by the school psychologist and principle on the other side...

There is no rational law that would have stopped this from happening. None.
If pregnant women had the ability of pre-cognition, your point might be well-taken, but you pay your nickel, and you take your chances. Unfortunately, our society has stopped institutionalizing people who are a danger to society, and tries to mainstream them by treating them as if they are normal-functioning, and in fact anyone who dares to disparage someone who is not normal, is treated like an asshole who has no heart.

The misinformation that has been reported about this deranged kid and his mother is just mind boggling. First, we hear that the mom was a teacher at the school and there conclusions made by the media that his motive was to get back at his mother by killing what she loved, teaching children. Then it turns she's not a teacher at all, instead she was a recently divorced, unemployed stay at home mom and she was home schooling Adam. Which is odd because other reports say he finished HS when he in the 10th grade and then there are reports of him attending high school and belonging to a computer science club and always carrying a briefcase clutched to his chest in the hallways.
Then it's reported that Nancy Lanza was a gun enthusist who enjoyed taking Adam to target practice to teach him responsibility, but the police reports say there's little to no evidence of her going to any target ranges in the area. Then her ex-sister in law, Marsha Lanza says she had guns to defend herself, but she never felt under threat while adding that "It's the person who does the killing, not the gun."
That last statement by the sister in law is very telling how that entire Lanza family must have thought about guns. But if those guns were not in the house that kid wouldn't have had the method by which to do what he did.

Funny, he didn't say a word about constitutional rights. But you did. Twenty children were just ruthlessly shot full of holes and all you care about is that someone might take away your toys??? Yes, there is a mental health problem in this country and it's called conservatism. No, he's showing that Constitutional rights are always rights...not just when they are convienient.

There is no law that could have prevented what happened. There are ABSOLUTELY laws that would have stopped this from happening.....starting with a ban on asssault rifles.
What, are you a mind reader now, too?He wasn't trying to "make it about abortion". He was illustrating the right to privacy, which is no less relevant to background checks as it is to the abortion debate.
