As of Jan. of this year, 12K+ civilians are dead. Those of course, are just the ones the world knows about. Who knows how many Ukrainian civilians have been butchered in the occupied areas by Putzin and his slaughter army.

The West wanted to make sure those weapons didn’t end up on the black market after the collapse of the Soviet Union.
