I kinda feel like I saw this left split coming. The trouble with Corbyn is he’s a backbencher at his best and isn’t prepared to make a tough decision.

They have basically been the most influential party of the last decade given that Brexit has been the greatest change in national policy we have lived through. I see no reason that this can´t happen on the left.

The reason these things usually "can't happen on the left" is often down to money.

The ownership class are usually all too happy to sponsor right wing populist parties because they serve the purpose of furthering the divide-and-conquer class warfare strategy. That same dynamic does not exist on the populist left (see Zohran Mamdani).

Well that would end the protest vote option for many who don't like where the Conservatives and Labour are now and who are not Reform supporters.

I'd say everything that @StillBallin75 said except for the class warfare part. Brexit was hugely backed by corporations looking to escape some of the corruption laws coming in.

The "Left" in the UK is not a simple homogenous mass either, many left leaning people I speak with in real life are just as much anti-immigration as some of the right wing people I meet. Whichever party can win or make real headroom with the public in this area will win the next election and right now - Reform is hoovering up these potential voters.

Yea there are many "anti-immigration" on the left as well... but many of them are "anti-immigration" because these immigrants supposedly lower wages and/or take jobs from locals. Of course there are also racist lefties, but my experience with "lefties" across Europe who are against mass immigration tend to be more against it on "labour" issues, not religious/racist issues.

Now on the right, it is 100% religious/racist issues.. the "they are different, hence bad" attitude. Case in point..

Denmark is giving out education visas to 300 students from the 3rd world/middle east because we lack workers in Denmark. The first comments from my right wing Danes was of course.. but but they are Muslim..and were against it of course, despite it was in part the right wing government parties that proposed it.. but hey!

Why did the government extend 300 visas just to middle east? Given a selection of say Han Chinese, non Mahometan sub Saharan Africans, central and south American Christians, a Dane may very well chose to take his chances with anything but Mahometan.
