I don't know why anyone would believe the government capable of this sort of thing. The fact that they attempted to shut down the political speech of conservative groups by targeting them for harassment by the IRS and other agencies? The fact that they are trying to charge climate skeptics with crimes and sue them under RICO statutes to shut them up? The fact that they gave Mexican criminals firearms illegally trying to gin up a case for gun control? The fact that they won't release the transcript from Mateen's attack on Pulse? The fact that they stalled and obstructed investigations into Hillary's handling of classified material? The fact that the government has gotten into the business of policing social media to promote what they think is proper speech and inhibit what they don't like?

Why would any of this make us think that they are up to no good taking control of the internet?

You have it backwards. The left, techies, and aging hippies are against any change. What they are trying to prevent is price fixing and select charges on certain services such as charging more per minute for steaming videos and music.

Much of the same could be said for Media Matters or a host of other ultra left wing media outlets. Yes, I totally agree with the low information heard but it is on both sides to be sure.
