I have to wonder...if that woman turned around holding a grenade, would the rapist still have assaulted her?Drawing on the OP's implication that there's really no difference between supporting a gun ban and supporting a knife ban, surely conservatives here are opposed to bomb, tank, and biological weapon bans? Or perhaps destructive capability of the object in question does factor in to the situation, and therefore it's not so black and white like our illustrious OP seems to believe?
yet you still cannot cut your meat without a knife. BTW you can get meat without a gun, but you cannot cut it without a knife.
Why didn't she just call the cops and wait there for help to arrive?
...or maybe run home real quick and get a Joe Biden's shot-gun out of her safe?
All guns or just some guns?
Unless she pulled a gun. Then he'd have to stab her just to avoid his own death.
You really think a rapist is just going to stand there while she pulls a gun and shoots him?
You don't need your gun. As a matter of fact you could live your entire life without it. How often do you use it for shooting something other than targets? Which really amounts to playing with it. Which really puts your gun in the same category as a ball.
If your ideals are common sense then consider me uncommon. I am fine with not seeing your point of view since you can barely explain it.
Like I have shown you in the past, gun rights are not even acceptable for everyone by you, or the founding fathers for that matter.
Now there is your problem. Reading comprehension. i have never said society doesn't need guns, I said you don't need them. You don't need a nuclear power reactor, but they do come in handy for the country. There are lots of things we find useful that you don't personally need.
Evidently it is a problem for you, because you are here. It is hard to play like you are unconcerned with me when you are part of the posse that stalks my posts half the time.
I think there is already a ban on carrying knives of any useful length, in public upon one's person, in the UK.
Certainly rape is unlawful.
What a pity the lady didn't have some means of defending herself...
No, he's going to grab her hand as it goes into her purse and then probably stab her to death and then flee the scene. Or possibly shoot her with her own gun. A bigger, stronger person already within arms length has already beaten you if your gun isn't out and aimed already. Police officers have a 21 foot rule regarding gun vs. knife, and that's a trained officer with a gun holstered. (a device designed for convenient gun access) Some police units teach a 30 foot rule, regarding 21 feet as too close.
Someone can close 21 feet in the time it takes a trained officer to pull a gun and shoot it to decisively stop the attacker. How many feet away do you think this guy was before she realized what was happening?
Everyone ****in thinks they're Rambo, I swear...

Correct, it's a complicated situation and people can't just declare IF SHE HAD A GUN HURRRRRRRR.Sometimes I wish Tueller had kept his mouth shut, because his work is some of the most misconstrued and abused information about self-defense on the books, right up there with Grossman's.
The Tueller Drill is a DRILL. It's purpose is to impress upon police officers that they must take a knifer very seriously and consider him a lethal threat. It originated in a time when too many LEOs were getting killed by knifers, because they failed to treat the knife as a deadly weapon and respond accordingly.
What is ISN'T: It ISN'T a model for how assaults happen or what can or cannot be done vs a knifer. That is a far more complex subject.
We have no idea what this lady may or may not have been able to do, had she been armed with some kind of weapon and some reasonable training in its use. We do not know if she may not have had an opportunity to draw the hypothetical weapon in a moment of distraction for the assaulter.
One thing you learn in a hurry dealing with street criminals on a regular basis, is that nothing is written-in-stone, cut and dried in real life.
I had another look at the first 40 or so posts and I didn't find where anyone said such a thing.Correct, it's a complicated situation and people can't just declare IF SHE HAD A GUN HURRRRRRRR.
So first you say 'it's complicated' then you say 'THE RAPIST HAD A KNIFE HURRRR'. What happened to it being complicated?Someone with a knife at your back has the advantage. If you try to pull a gun, they still have the advantage. It's not impossible for you to kill them, but it's unlikely. I use the 21 foot rule not as some sort of magical barrier within which you are automatically dead, but rather it's a way to demonstrate that even a trained shooter is in serious trouble if their gun isn't out and ready before things become close-quarters. A civilian probably worse.
