Got excited by this video. I had been wondering what became of the development of modular reactors and this gets into the details. I wasn't aware the government held a competition in 2020. This gets into the details of the kinds of reactors developed by the two finalists, Terrapower and X-Energy, and their current development status.

I love the prospect of abundant clean energy that such reactors make possible. I've no objection at all of everyone driving EVs powered by nuclear reactors.

This has been considered before.

Great video. I wasn't aware of this technology at all. I went through nuclear power school in the Navy back in the early 70's, so my understanding of nuclear power is limited to technology that's half of a century old. I haven't kept up with it since.

This is very intriguing - the inherent safety and lack of waste are particularly intriguing.

While the road has not been smooth, there are some encouraging signs.
One of the ideas is to replace heat from burning coal at coal power plants with SMR. The power plants are already where they need to be, but lack a clean heat source.

Yep. Video mentioned that AWS was gonna get with x-energy. Cool as heck.

What gets interesting is if generating electricity for your own use( not the grid) may not have the same regulations. I would not be surprised if companies like Exxon would not also be looking at this technology, as they will need massive amounts of carbon free electricity.

Why do you find this "encouraging?" You don't even believe that net zero carbon emissions is a goal that matters.

Sustainable energy and a viable power grid matter!
