Will you wear a mask after being vaccinated?

No, it's garden variety anti-semitism. Republicans are befuddled by this notion because they're such staunch advocates of Israel, and even that points to anti-semitism, a statement that would be even more confusing to conservatives. After all, how could it possibly be anti-semitic to support Israel? On the surface that doesn't make any sense. Except if you approach it from the notion that Jews are really Israeli, then what you're engaging in is "otherization," a tactic that stems from the belief that Jews aren't really American.

It's a nuance that goes completely over the heads of conservatives and is something that we grasp very, very clearly.
that really is no answer. Some of the most virulent anti semitic groups are groups that are major league supporters of Democrats.

Yes, because otherwise it'll cause a commotion when I go into stores.

For a brief moment I thought of a badge you'd wear in public that would show you've been vaccinated, but I instantly realized how quickly they'd be forged by anti-masker assholes.

The vaccine prevents the infection from taking hold in your lungs. You can actually still spread it to unvaccinated people after you are vaccinated.

Why would I start wearing a mask just because I got vaccinated?

The vaccine is to protect you; the mask is to protect others from you. They do not yet know if you can transmit the virus even if you have been vaccinated.

Figures.

I didn't expect what I said to make sense to you.

As for the latter, that's a posture that stems from a political position, regardless of whether or not you agree that it's right minded or proportionate to the issue. The right wing anti-semitism is old school otherization. That's where you find "The Joos are in control of the banks etc. etc."

The main purpose of the mask is to protect others from you if you get sick.

My understanding is the vaccine will help you recover after you've been infected. I've never heard it stops you from being contagious.

So the main reason to wear the mask isn't changed by the vaccine.

Nope, the purpose of a vaccine is to (artificially) enhance your immunity to a (given) communicable disease, thus preventing you from becoming contagious and able to spread that disease.

actually that bit about the "Rothchilds" controlling the banks was more populist (Williams Jennings Bryant) than it was GOP

No, it goes back to basically forever. After the diaspora, Jews found themselves living as outsiders in Christian lands. Before the Renaissance when Christians became bankers (such as the Medici), the only people allowed to engage in money lending were the Jews because they didn't have laws against usury. Nobles and Royalty went into huge debt to the money lenders, often to fund Crusades and whatnot. The easiest way to cancel the debt was to demonize the money lenders (the Jews) and kill or exile them, always taking their belongings in the process. If this sounds exactly like what the Nazis did, it should because that sort of thing happened constantly in Europe for nearly two thousand years.

The image of the greedy Jew was perfected in Shakespeare's Shylock in the Merchant of Venice, who demands a pound of flesh to pay back a loan. This image was cemented in the mainstream consciousness, and has been used countless times to scapegoat Jews for countless ills. The image of the Jew secretly steering society for his own selfish and inscrutable ends persists quite well here in America. The most famous recent example being the Charlottesville protests in which White Supremacists shout "Jews will not replace us."

A seemingly minor but important distinction is that the chant wasn't meant to communicate that Jews would replace white people with themselves, but with immigrants. It's a real two-fer: You have a toxic mix of anti-immigration, anti-semitist conspiracy theory and victimization anxiety.

Anyway, all of this is the brew of anti-semitism that is entrenched within the right, and it's historically and objectively more insidious and dangerous than anything the left has to offer because it's an inherent fear and hatred of Jews themselves and not merely anger over one ongoing geopolitical issue.

Can someone please tell my why it is so hard to wear a mask? Why do so many of fight this to the point you want to see the economy crash further, more Americans die, and more families suffer? Much of this can be greatly improved by simply wearing a mask.

I think I'll wear a mask for about a month after I get vaccinated to give everyone else a chance to get vaccinated, but then it's no more mask.

Yes, for the forseeable future. Why do you ask?

Once an issue has entered the Culture War no amount of reason can address it. The problem is that Trump keeps taking non-partisan issues and injecting them into the Culture War.

I'll wear one after being vaccinated until the doctors sound off on it regarding Covid.

It actually might not be a bad idea to wear one in the future when experiencing cold/cough symptom. According to research wearing masks helps with colds too so why not be a good human and not try and infect other people.

Who the hell voted no?

WTF kind of sociaty am I a part of?

I guarantee it's the selfish pricks, Trumpists.

I have so had it with these selfish, ignorant bitches.

That would make it a treatment, not a vaccine, way I understand it. A vaccine encourages your body to make antibodies so you don't get infected. No infection, no contagion.
Unless I'm misunderstanding.

It's not yet established yet is the answer as of now. Hence, until it becomes clear that the vaccine prevent transmission, we need to continue with our masks.

I had Covid and the doctors at Portsmouth Naval Hospital still recommend wearing a protective mask because nobody in the world (yet) fully understands how long the antibodies will last from person to person.

we have 20 reinfections in our areas as of last month.

I agree with you but I want someone who refuses to wear a mask to explain to me why they'd rather see US families suffer, Americans die, and an economic collapse just so they don't have to wear a mask.

It’s a culture war thing now. You’re not going to get a rational response.

I'm 35 and healthy, so I imagine I will be vaccinated after frontline workers and elderly and those with conditions that make this virus much more dangerous. If I get the vaccine that requires two shots I will wear my mask until I'm fully vaccinated and maybe slightly longer if I happen to get a vaccine before it's available to everyone. But long term, if the vaccine is fully available and I'm not mandated by law then I will not be wearing it.

You have a better chance of winning the lottery.

I bring this up with my Trump loving family down here. They can't answer and evade the question, and when absolutely forced, it comes back to that they don't believe the virus is as bad as reported. Doctors are falsely attributing covid to all deaths, patients in the hospital with covid are tested multiple times a day, so 1 sick person with covid will show up as 30 or 40 positive tests which is inflating the covid numbers etc.

It absolutely kills me. My father bought my son a birthday gift and I told my father and mother in law that we could come over and greet them outside of their house, no hugging and kissing, with masks and we could let my son open the gift and we could chat for a minute outside and then leave. They refused that and said that when we want to come over and sit down for dinner in the house and spend a few hours with them, to let them know. I don't really like my mother in law and would expect this kind of petty bullshit from her, but not from my dad. Lately he has fallen down the Trump culture war rabbit hole.

Having already had COVID, I’m functionally vaccinated already.

And I wear a mask when mandated, as usual. I’ll also wear a mask outdoors in crowds, if only to make others more comfortable, since they have no way of knowing my status. It’s a little thing known to others as ‘not being a dick’.

Because I’m an adult, and adults understand that you do things that are sometimes mildly unpleasant.

Need a third option. Also need more clarification. First, assuming the vaccine is 95% effective, there is a 5% chance you could still get Covid. Second, I don't really know how long after the vaccination it takes for antibodies to build up. Third, the vaccines coming out now requite two doses, one now and one 3-4 weeks later. Fourth, we don't know how long after the second dose until you have built up the required number of antibodies to protect you. So, there are a lot of ifs, ands, or buts.

I’ll wear a mask until I am told it is safe not to by the experts.

I'm one of the last people who will get a vaccine, I work from home and am in my 30s, probably low risk.
