That would put them in their 70s or older, but there are still some alive. I guarantee that some of those people voted Democrat before but now vote Republican. Regulations are usually there for a reason - whether it be environmental or consumer/worker safety. The GOP want to get rid of important environmental regulations. Again, the GOP would love to intrude into the lives of millions of women by restricting or banning abortion. Taxes are crucial to the functioning of the country, and increasing them to say the levels under Bill Clinton would not harm the economy whilst allowing the government to invest in infrastructure.

Most of the important laws, those that truly are to help people or keep them safe, have nothing to do with religion, and are found throughout almost every society in some form, even those that existed long before Christianity. If you want a comparison, look at Brazil. There is a saying "For my fiends, everything; for my enemies, the law." Generally what the regulations accomplish is things not getting done. For example, institute rent control and watch a housing shortage magically appear.
