Will the GOP ever nominate a person of color for president or vice president?

Based on current US demographics, there seems to be at most a 14.4% chance.

BTW, why would a Progressive care?

Republican is a self-selection population. General population probabilities do not apply.

That’s why I said “at most”, since a much lower percentage of the US black population identifies as republicant.

They will in a couple of generations, but more boomers need to age out first.

Unlike Democrats, Republicans don’t consider melanin to be a qualification. It’s just not something they’re actively looking for in a candidate. It’s inevitable that it will be an incidental for a future nominee and it’s a reasonable assumption that they will be Hispanic.

You're right, they consider melanin to be a disqualification.

Do you not realize that there probably is a segment of the population (Republican, not dopey MAGA), that would like to see some viable minority names tossed around as serious Presidential or VP candidate material?
There's a larger percentage of Latinos in America than blacks, why haven't Republicans seriously looked at a Latino as a candidate (Cancun Cruz is Canadian, so he doesn't count)?

No. Bigots won't change until another generation comes along that may tip that scale. But as far as the GOP goes, no POC, no minorities, no women, no gays. Just old, white, rich men.

Republicans have Trump as Presidential nominee at least through the 2028 election.
That means that the VP selection in 2028 will be his choice. Considering so far he selected Pence (to shore up evangelicals) and Couch Guy (biggest ass kisser), wonder who would kiss his ass the most for 2028 consideration?

The Presidential candidates for the DNC in 2016 included 5 white men and 1 white woman. The RNC had 2 Hispanic men and 2 white men.

The Presidential candidates for the DNC in 2020 included 6 white men, 1 Asian man, 1 black man, 2 white women, and 1 Samoan woman. The RNC had 5 white men.

The Presidential candidates for the DNC in 2020 included 3 white men. The RNC had 3 white men, 1 Indian man, and 1 Indian woman.

That’s moving the goal posts somewhat, but Marco Rubio and Tim Scott ran for POTUS in 2024 and were said to be on the ‘short list’ for VP.

The Republican Party is about two things, oligarchy and getting power to get oligarchy. They don't care about race for oligarchy, so that leaves the second issue. If a candidate of color (or woman) can't get their votes, they won't get nominated. If they can, they will. So it's up to their voters.

That’s probably because there’s statistically no melanin in the Republican Party anyway.

It’s just not something they’re actively looking for in a candidate. It’s inevitable that it will be an incidental for a future nominee and it’s a reasonable assumption that they will be Hispanic.

They certainly seem to consider melanin when it comes to redistricting.

I know Democrats may be totally surprised by this, but Kamala Harris isn’t Black, she’s Jamaican and Indian.

How'd those Hispanic men and the 2 Indians do?

Not surprised at all. Was at her AANHPI rally.

Or are they too mired in whiteness and just don't consider these "black jobs?"

Do you remember the bathroom scene in Trading Places, where the Dukes were overheard by Billy Ray, talking about the bet?

Warning: N word usage.

Yeah. This is how the GOP feels about people of color.
