This may sound crazy and probably is, but revolution. It's what formed this country. I think we've strayed very far from the framers' intentions and become something entirely different. I don't believe the government really cares what the people want, they just want power.
Do you think Obama will live up to nation he painted in his victory speech and throughout the campaign?
From a 'moderate', very crazy
Paul
Thing two - I voted for Gary Johnson.
I voted yes because the Country really is starting to change. For example: Two states have just legalized marijuana for recreational use. In his heart of hearts, I believe the president applauds this, but it may be a little too soon to extend his support.
All cigarette factories should be destroyed. There's no reason why we should have to put up with these tobacco corporatists any longer!Yeah, that was a good idea.
I mean, cigerettes are bad for you but pot is ok.
Then you must be very pleased with the election results.
that might be true or it might not, thats not my argument at all.
Im not saying its a fact he will have success, but "in general" Im rooting for him just like i root for all presidents because rooting against him is moronic and illogical. If he fails it hurts america
IMO, your argument falls apart when you say that if Obama fails America fails. If Obama succeeds America fails.
As I stated elsewhere, I am pleased that women get to own their vaginas for at least 4 more years.
I am pleased that the initiation of war on Iran and Syria doesn't look likely at present. Under Romney it would likely have been different and bloody.
I am pleased that America is officially turning away from religion in government.
I am pleased that America has voted an African American man as president twice.
I am pleased that more women than ever before will sit in Congress.
I am pleased that the Tea Party has lost ground.
I am pleased that Arizona is now more purple than red.
Romney had the support of the old, rich, white, religionist males.
I doubted seriously that he would win. That demographic is no longer the mainstream America. I knew full well that my vote for Johnson was a vote against Romney.
How do you think that would have changed under Obama?
Fear mongering. The current middle eastern troubles are as much due to our feckless foreign policy as anything else.
So, Obama isn't religious now?
How does skin color qualify anyone for anything?
What does that have to do with Obama being president?
Well, with this I'll have to agree with you.
I don't see what this has to do with anythiing, most every state is actually purple. Only a few are solid blue or red.
That's 49% of the American voting public?
With less then a 2% margin, this sounds a little more like wishful thinking than anything else. Specially considering that Obama lost 9 million votes since the last election.
Mac, it was obvious when you posted the question to me that you had an agenda. You baited, I knew that and I didn't/don't mind in this instance. I didn't destroy your world. I can't make you happy. If I had agree with your opinions I would have voted for Romeny, right? Suck it up, son. Here's the cold, hard truth. I voted for Gary Johnson. I told you that. I voted my conscience. I would never have voted for Romney. Why is no longer important.
You and more than a few others seem want to blame people (Caution: Family Value words are not used in the link) who didn't vote for Romney. Post until you get all that vitriol out. Your opinions are in the minority. It's better that all y'all get it out online than take that crap to the streets.
While I watched Obama's speech last night, I certainly felt happy, reassured and excited for the future. He is an exceptional orator who makes those who stand with him truly feel that they are a meaningful part of something important. At the same time, in the back of mind I could not help but wonder if he's going to live up to the vision he painted for the country last night. He said things that he hasn't said in this entire election season and, in some ways, in the past four years.
I wonder if he now feels he get more done now that he doesn't have to worry about re-election or if it will be another four years of Obama not going as far as should have gone. In my opinion, he didn't push hard enough on Healthcare, he was too cautious about same-sex marriage, he significantly overreached by supporting warrant-less surveillance, his education policies weren't ideal and he didn't do enough to increase employment. (There's more, but I'll stop there.)
So, my question, mostly to those who voted for Obama:
Do you think Obama will live up to nation he painted in his victory speech and throughout the campaign?
Video of speech: President Barack Obama - 2012 Re-election Acceptance Speech - YouTube
Transcript of speech: Transcript: Obama’s Victory Speech - Washington Wire - WSJ
I didn't vote for Obama, but I read the transcript, and I will say that I don't see how many of the things he stated are possible within the time frame of his final term. I would love to see the national debt paid off, and actual inequality ended, but in four years, do you really think we can eliminate a 16 trillion dollar deficit? Or bypass the bickering and heated disagreements of what inequality actually is, and how to define it? And how do we stop global warming? Tear down our entire automotive and industrial infrastructure to build new "clean" alternatives? And what's this "generous" and "compassionate" America he speaks of? When was that supposed to ever take place in our very violent and brutal history? How can he speak of compassion as he sends drones and airstrikes over the Middle East after promising to end our theaters of war?
He can do some things, but he can't do everything, and I don't believe for one second he can create his vision of America in four years. It's just impossible. When you throw in the resistance he will undoubtedly receive from Congress, he may not be able to check anything off his list. We'll certainly see, and I wish him the best of luck, because I do like some of the things he wants for the nation, I just don't agree with how he wants to get us there, if that makes any sense.
