China's got one.
We could employ a lot of people. We build is 60 feet hight and 30 feet thick with a nice bike path on top. We place solar panels on the southern side and it would produce a lot of power. 2000 miles x 5280 linear feet x three panels high would equate more then a nuclear power plans or two. It'd be possible to employ production teams that dig on site, make adobe compressed earth bricks, and install them without serious enviro hazards. With the millions of unemployed I'll bet we can get it done in a few years.
What a cool tourist attraction it'd be, power source, and solve the open border fiasco. Of course we have places to pass thru. Wherever needed, and where they aren't we can use cameras to make sure it's all good.
BTW it'd produce 10.6 million kilowatt hours a day. That is enough for 5 - 6 million small / medium size homes.
