Why Exactly Can't Iran Have a Nuke?

For most of my adult life, Israel has been working their asses off to drag the US into a war with Iran. On numerous occasions, Israel, with American weapons, has attacked and killed Iranians under the guise of self-preservation. Even after these unprovoked attacks, Iran has maintained a cool head and has taken every possible step to avoid war.

Now, in 2025, we have multiple attacks from the US and Israel against Iran, murdering civilians with the claim that Iran must never get their hands on a nuke. Why not? They haven't shown themselves to be warmongering in any way whatsoever. In fact, it's been the US and Israel who have shown themselves to be unworthy of having nukes, all the while telling us to fear the country that's been the victim of their aggression.

It seems like the only way the Middle East will be at peace is if they DO have a nuke. At least that'll discourage the West's attacks on their people.
 
The Right irrationally believe that Iran would use a nuke as soon as they have one to launch a suicidal attack on Israel, as if Ayatollahs have ever conducted suicide bombings.

Iran has never used WMDs, not even as retaliation when they were used against them first. They also have never given WMDs to terrorists.

No I don't think anybody believes that. Issue with Iran building a nuke would be then Qatar will want one then Saudi Arabia then Jordan and so on and so forth until you have a bunch of psycho Nations pointing guns at each other

It's not just about whether they use it. Look at the shit Russia is able to get away with just by virtue of having nukes. But I also would not be so dismissive of the possibility of Iran using a nuke or giving it to other bad actors.

You mean how when N. Korea developed nukes immediately after the threshold states of Australia, S. Korea, Japan, (and maybe) Taiwan started nuke testing?

I can show you posts by multiple Rightwingers on this site saying they believe Iran will use a nuke on Israel as soon as they get one.

Qatar and Jordan aren’t going to be building nukes. They can’t afford it. More likely we would see a Sunni defensive alliance with a Saudi nuclear program and joint funding and weapons sharing. The Saudi’s already have IRBMs capable of carrying nuclear warheads (https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Royal_Saudi_Strategic_Missile_Force).

They do need nukes for their deterrent value. Countries keep advocating for war against them and violent regime change. That doesn’t happen when you have a nuclear deterrent.

Israel has BEGGED for Iranian blood for decades, wielding American weapons. Yeah, they have a good reason to hate America and Israel. AND STILL, they haven't attacked first.

They haven't shown themselves to be the problem.

Last night when Joy Reid kept insisting Iran should have have a nuke everyone on the panel looked at her like she had two heads, as did I.

Qatar and Jordan are no more likely to develop nuclear weapons than Belgium or the Czech Republic. Instead they will ally with people who do have them.

The US has been threatening to attack Iran and overthrow its government for more than 2 decades now.

They fund Hezbollah and Hamas because of Israeli ethnic cleansing against fellow Muslims.
