Why Defund PBS?

It's pretty basic. All it takes is cursory curiosity. I bet I could find an article that explains vaccines help you gain antibodies to fight off of various not that it stops you from ever getting infected.

Because they don't that's not what they're for. Again they provide your body with antibodies to fight off infection.

How do you not know this? Why would you need to fight off infection with antibodies if you could no longer get infected?

No it's not it's a contradiction of your belief.

You don't need a PhD you just need to know what an antibody is.

Yep, vaccinations don’t stop the spread of viruses. Clax must be right. Which is why the rate of polio has never gone down since the creation of the Polio vaccine.

Seriously this is ****ing moronic. I guess we can chalk up epidemiology as another thing where you claim to be an expert but have zero expertise.

I think the solution is to cancel the News Hour, and leave the funding for the entertainment/NOVA side in place for the next 3 years, and see if viewership - actual numbers - warrants further support. I think it's the News Hour that's got people disgruntled and turned off

Low brow MAGA can't understand PBS.

I know… I know…. 101 is all about completely ignoring population statistics and only focuses in on individuals.

Epidemiology famously is concerned with ignoring the public side of public health.

This has always been a pet peeve of mine, the whole "whatever 101" thing. It's just not how course numbering works.

"101" classes are usually graduate classes.

Because as I painstakingly wrote out before…. It is about probabilities.
Why was that painstaking is it because you were overly verbose? I have absolutely no trouble responding to you it's not painstaking it's almost boring.
If you are vaccinated you are less likely to become infected if you are exposed… I didn’t say you won’t… but you are less likely
Then why would you need antibodies? Vaccines are about equipping your white blood cells with antibodies to fight off infection. Why would you need to fight off infection if the possibility of infection it's almost nothing?

If you are infected and vaccinated one tends to be less ill… here is where I don’t claim that you won’t get sick if you are infected but compared to those who are not vaccinated the illness is less severe.
I don't disagree with this but you do understand in order to be infected you have to be infected right?
Also… the vaccinated are more likely to clear the virus from their body faster than those who are not vaccinated and here is a pretty important part when it comes to epidemiology… THEY SPEND LESS TIME BEING A VECTOR.
So what how long do you have to be a vector to spread?
None of this is magic.
I was using hyperbole.
None of this is black and white.
Where did I say it was black and white mother you're infected or not it's absolutely black and white the viruses either in you or it isn't that's the only thing I've said was black and white.

Why do you insist on arguing against strawman fallacies that you make?
Seriously… this attitude that if something doesn’t work 100% it is useless is bullshit that killed a lot of people who didn’t need to die.
Agreed that's not my attitude it's just another of your delightful strawman fallacies.

It is killing people now who don’t need to die.
Mostly people that have comorbidities a lot like flu. People with autoimmune deficiencies and so forth. A lot of these people can't actually be vaccinated because of the autoimmune deficiency
It is making long Covid a real problem in this country.
I've heard a lot of talk about long covid but never anything that substantive.

Give me a link or point me somewhere that shows that this is a thing.
None of that has to happen… it is a choice that we as a nation have made to feel that we are all
Special snowflakes who don’t have to worry about spreading diseases because we don’t want the inconvenience of getting a tiny needle in the arm.
I've gotten tattoos I'm not afraid of needles I'm afraid of experimental medicine I would much rather have covid again than myocarditis
What a bunch of pampered idiots we have become.
But again they're only pampered in your straw man fallacy and not in reality. If you thought you were correct you wouldn't need to do that. Anytime were you attack someone's character or something about their person because they're not obeying an order you think they should obey that's because you can't rationalize the order.

Maybe instead of inflating your own ego you can actually listen to others. Except the data that may not be favorable to your narrative.

I started to watch this one because it is a piece of wild history.

It’s about a football game that the US army had in Nagasaki just months after a nuke leveled the place.

Just wild.

Oh… and Marxist.
Why do you think the only way to deliver this information is through media from the 1950s?

Gonna have to stop you right there.

COVID is not transmitted through the air. It is not airborne.
It's aerosol generated which essentially means it's emitted through vapor which is then transmitted through the air to reach another humid inhale or mucous membrane. It doesn't really matter. Please don't play semantics which is what you're doing. It's irritating and silly

Holy crap.

I think that the ignorance is willful at this point.

your response has nothing to do with what I typed.

I've noticed you can watch certain things produced for PBS on Amazon but you have to pay for it but I don't have to pay for it twice my taxpayer for dollars funded it I should have it for free. Who's making this money?

I don't think you're being willful I think you're being partisan.
your response has nothing to do with what I typed.
Because what you typed was a strawman fallacy. Your mischaracterizing my arguments to make them easier for you to attack.

This is probably another reason why you're so frustrated.

Put your ego aside quit trying to be right and just listen.

It is not transmitted by "vapor," and it absolutely does matter, particularly when people are trying to play the "science" card while talking out their asses.

COVID is transmitted through liquid. That's an entirely different state of matter than "air."

They only protect the person who is vaccinated that cannot protect anyone else.
If it's a contagious disease, you are precisely protecting others as well as yourself by getting vaccinated. This could not be an easier, more non controversial fact.

I find the funding issue frustrating. I can't get PBS through antenna - as it went digital - so I'm forced to pay for it through Amazon. And if I want a season called Passport, it's more. So, you have a very good point. Exactly what is my taxpayer dollar buying?? I guess some PBS executive's golf membership

For the point of a general discussion, it is transmittable through air AS A VAPOR which is why masks were advised. Gimme a break. The whole point is how to prevent exposure. You're nitpicking

I liked it better when it was MacNeil-Lehrer.

You enjoy shows like Walking with Dinosaurs? I do. You won't find shows like that on commercial stations.
That's why I'm torn about the funding. I like the science a lot. Frontline is often informative. The nightly news/commentary has gotten tedious.

Yep, vaccinations don’t stop the spread of viruses. Clax must be right.
Sometimes it's a burden.
Which is why the rate of polio has never gone down since the creation of the Polio vaccine.
So we shouldn't vaccinate anybody against polio because of nobody can be infected the virus is extinct?

There have been pandemics from coronavirus before covid 19 MERS, SARS.

You know why it's difficult to actually against this and flu, and rhinovirus? It's because they transmit and multiply so fast by the time you develop a vaccine if has already mutated.

They had original COVID-19 and within weeks there was the Delta variant and then the omicron variant
Seriously this is ****ing moronic.
Yeah you're bad faith argument is moronic

No that's what you're trying to do.

I like masterpiece theater some of them. But it's behind a paywall. That should be criminal. People should be going to jail for this.

I don't watch that part.

So did I.
Now, imagine they put in some balance, with someone like John Stossel to poke fun at the more ridiculous wastes of public money and the more obnoxious regulatory intrusions. Putting half the staff of The Atlantic on Friday night is not the same.
