Why they are bad ideas, no they really are bad ideas.

Ever heard of the streisand effect? Censoring and blocking ideas does not make them go away, it actually makes them more prevalent as the masses assume any attempts to cover them up are suspicious and attempts to remove what media and others call lies ends up with people believing more and more that what was covered up was the truth and what the media is presenting is lies. To put it more simply it means any attempts to censor or silence opposing theories makes those theories more mainstream and gains them more acceptance.

This simply means trying to censor parler made parler more powerful, trying to censor election disinformation just made more people convinced the election was rigged, trying to censor or hide anything just makes what you are trying to hide more powerful. The streisand effect was named after the effect streisand faced, where the more she tried to hide, the more in the open it became.

The Streisand effect is a social phenomenon that occurs when an attempt to hide, remove, or censor information has the unintended consequence of further publicizing that information, often via the Internet

A little too late.

I reject the premise. It isn't censorship. The fact that a carrier doesn't wish to be associated with an enterprise is quite different from censoring. Companies have the right - in fact they have fiduciary responsibility - to serve their owners, their employees and their stock holders. If those in charge feel that any association sullies their name or reputation, or sends a political message contrary to the beliefs of the owners, then it isn't censoring to sever that relationship any more than its censorship for a theater chain to refuse to show a XXX rated movies or a racist propaganda film.

parler is free to find a webhost other than Amazon.

BS ideas, conspiracy theory and other crap is marginalized. Period. That's what happens. Every ****ing time. So Trumpers shouldn't cry.

They will have to work harder to find their brother ilk. They do not deserve to be able to use other’s services for their horrific plots.

Let's see whether the Streisand Effect happens here. So far, I'm sensing a sizeable decrease in conspiratorial nonsense on the Internet.

Personally, I think that if a platform full of crazies disappears, then there will be less craziness.

Morally, that's a good thing.

In other words, all of those nutballs can go **** themselves, or so said Biden's hologram at the Soros-funded football pizza party last Sunday.

There are conflicting effects.

On the one hand, the effect you mention can happen. On the other, making it harder for people to communicate can have the opposite effect. One can be a larger effect or the other can. Since this is a big lie with nothing to support it, I think the restrictions are more likely to reduce its prevalence than attention from censoring is to grow it.

Conspiracy stuff has not shrunk on the internet though, it has only became less seen on the same platforms censoring them. They are growing on bitchute and gab and mewe and others.

But here is an example, who is qanon, who here really heard of it before the election? I would bet the answer is almost no one in america other than 4chan junkies and conspiracy theorists heard of it before then, but the media effort to demonize it and facebook and twitters efforts to remove it only made it more known and caused more people to join in. Essentially if no one had tried to censor them, almost no one would have even known qanon or even qanon conspiracies except a tiny corner of the internet.

On the contrary, it has shrunk considerably. I come across far less of it on social media sites.

It seems that the decisions of some of these social media sites has resulted in an unqualified victory.

But yes, anyone can find anything they like if they strain hard enough to find it.

That is the point of the streisand effect, trying to remove something makes people search for it more and makes it more known, much like putting a sign above a big red button that says do not push just makes it more likely someone will push it, it is human nature,.

Okay, but I used to see it, but now I don't see it anymore. It's gone from my life.

What is the name for that effect?

It's not censorship, it's business decisions made by businesses. No matter how much we agree with that decision it's like everything else they does, driven by greed.

The problem is that it's private entities who are censoring them, and there aren't any laws against that, however bad an idea it may be.

But that's a side-effect of privatization I suppose.

Censoring anyone on any of the media is stupid. If they do they will become nothing more than a echo chamber for radial left nonsense. While they and all the radical left may like that, it is totally un American. If their ideas are so wonderful they should be able to defend them, not DICTATE them.

It is totally American
