OK. It's your turn then: how do you propose we get guns from out of the hands of the mentally unstable or criminal people? Just how do you do this? First, the only thing that I can immediately recognize, at least from a logical perspective, is that one must be able to distinguish a mentally unstable (criminal) person that wishes to purchase a gun; now in order to do this one must have constructive information about that individual so that one knows not to sell that gun to that person.

Remember, Thrilla: you are about to address this problem on gun sales and how we make sure we don't complete transactions to the improper elements. Go for it.

You're citing a survey of less than a thousand people not as public opinion, which would be a stretch, but as fact?

Everyone in my family is well trained in how to shoot. My 14 year old has dozens of hours of high level tactical firearms training. He has a bio-lock safe under his bed with a custom SW 9mm with a red dot tactical sight on it. I trust him far more than many adults with a gun. He also knows when his friends come over-those without any firearms training-the guns are not even mentioned let alone let out of the safes or locked containers. But if someone breaks in the house and manages to get by me and the wife ( our room is downstairs), I fully expect him to kill anyone stupid enough to go up the stairs towards his bedroom. we have a browning full sized safe set in his bedroom where it provides perfect cover and gives him complete control of the stair way and the entrance to his bedroom.

keep the existing background check framework (which already includes reasonable requirements for private sellers).... add in mental health stipulations ( it's already been illegal for over 40 years to sell a firearm to a person who is mentally unstable)
in itslef, that doesn't do all that much.. but it does do some good, and more importantly, it does no harm ( provided the list of exclusions is proper and principled)

there is more we can do... as this is a problem that must be confronted on multiple fronts.
we need to provide for, and actually enforce, incredibly stiff penalties on anyone who commits a felony with the use of a firearm ( i'm not talking about letting a guy hang out for 10 or 15 years in a cell... i'm talking about having that guy turn big rocks into little rocks for an additional 10 years on top of the sentence for the crime committed)

we need to rid ourselves of inefficient, bloated, and redundant federal agencies and utilize those funds to offer block grants to the States to bolster their mental health care delivery systems. ( this should be done immediately, before we even start talking about bans and restrictions).

we need to enforce laws already on the books.... seriously, laws are useless without enforcement and our government does a piss poor job at enforcement ( probably because every year thousands and thousands of new laws are introduced, so LEO's can't really focus).. they suck so bad at enforcement, even i'm not scared of breaking all these new laws that are proposed, and i'm not even part of the criminal element.

we need to provide parents of troubled kids some help... not money or anything.. but something as simple as strengthened involuntary commitment powers.. involve schools in on the deal as well.

what I will not do is require ever transfer of a firearm, to any person, have a mandated background check attached to it... not only is that an unenforceable law, it's an overly intrusive law.
the criminal element already ignores background check laws, or circumvents them at will... thus, you are targeting those people who are least likely to commit heinous crimes.


overall, I think the furor over gun violence is overblown.... yes, there are tragedies, yes, it's horrible to see children or innocents be harmed... but statistically speaking, it's a very small problem in a world full of big ass problems... big ass problems that are overlooked and completely ignored.

one of my friends-after watching junior win the club "Steel" championship at age 11 beating about 50 adults (I must admit I threw a round off on purpose but it would have been close)-ask me why I let the kid shoot so much.
I said in case some asshole gets lucky and takes me out I expect junior to even things up with extreme prejudice!

Nevertheless, it's a fact that the republican controled 112th congress has a 85% to 95% disapproval rating making it the lowest and worst opinion rating of any congress in US history. Less popular than cockroaches but more popular than meth addicts isn't anything to brag about.

When are you going to face the truth, both parties are big government liberals, it is not about Democrat vs Republican it is the liberal government against the people. The dependants of the Nanny State against the tax payers. The entire congress is the 1% bought and paid for by the 1% to create a country of dependants for the profits of the 1%. The more rights we have the less power they have. Every right you take from the people is more power for the government and the government is the 1% that you hate so much yet you are their servants.

for someone who has been here 6 years I am amazed you are posting this idiocy. For years people whined that I only blasted the tax the rich envy based schemes of people like you. You post tons of gun stuff but unlike me, you have no clue what you are talking about.

It's liberals who are all about aborting and preventing. Conservatives are about having kids, building families, but also having the responsibility to work and pay your own way. We're about being responsible. Liberals are all about someone else becoming responsible for them.

Look at the liberal reaction, it's always "we need to do something for the poor" or "what are we going to do for the poor". It's never "when are the poor going to do something for themselves". Liberals treat people in poverty like amputees. Like they CAN'T do anything for themselves. Baloney. They're poor, not crippled.
 
The level of violent crimes in the UK is over double that of the USA. However, gun deaths are lower. I believe this strongly suggests that guns in the hands of citizens prevents violence.
 
What young Ameircans need to see in their developing years:
MORE killings on television, movies and video games.
MORE graphic in the act of violence. Instead of just blood splattering on walls we need to show our kids actual brain matter and intestines hanging on walls.
MORE sex between sons and their mothers on TV.
MORE rapes and cut out all the crying after it because who cares?
MORE scenes of father choking son like we see in the Simpsons.
MORE human explosions like we see on South Park.
MORE sexaul deviancy like we see on Family Guy.
MORE vomiting with the puke coming out of the mouths. Before, all we were subjected to was the sound now we get to see the actual vomit pouring out.
MORE talk shows about incest and abandoning babies.

As usual, you ignore reality. You make it seem that "access" is denied unless the taxpayers hand deliver something to everyone's doorstep. You address only subsequent out of wedlock childbirths, as if prior to entering into welfare dependency, these were non-thinking morons incapable of even the most basic reasoning. That is exactly the point of the post to which you replied. It is always said to be some mystical outside "root cause", never personal responsibility that is the reason for morons, acting like morons. Have you EVER tried a simple Google search for "free birth control"? I am sick of the "lack of access" nonsense - morons do not "seek access" they "just do it" and then expect a gov't reward check.
