Why aren't people more pissed off about this?!?

I think the militarization of the police has had many negative effects. But hey, can't jail the most people per capita in the world without some negative effects, amirite?

No need to make arrests, hold trials or do any of that pesky due process nonsense when you can just "light them up" instead. ;)

"Shot at" is a relative term. They fired paint pellets at people.

Boo-hoo.

Simple: because a good chunk of the country only pretends to care about "freedoms" in context of attacking "the left". They don't care about authoritarian use of force against civilians they don't like because they don't actually care about freedoms as some general. They don't care about things like widespread surveillance or police using stingrays to snoop when those things are being deployed against people they label "criminals." Ditto FISA courts, normal warrants, investigations, everything: as long as it's pointed something they can tell themselves is on "the left", they don't care.

Boo-hoo.

Those weren't "paint balls" the were military marker rounds, they are are fired by gun powder, not air and they are made of hard chalk not paint.

They are designed to be shot at body armor, not unarmed children on their own porch!!!

Minneapolis woman describes moment she was shot at by police who shouted 'light 'em up' during George Floyd protests - ABC News

A squad of Iwannabe no goes "light up" American citizens on their own porch trying to protect their property.
While saying light em up and hitting them with paint was too much, your statement needs to be corrected.

They werent protecting their property. They were gawking and hanging out looking like protesters on the patio after they were yelled at multiple times to go inside while the cops prepare to engage something down the road.

Context matters. You can't simply make up a fantasy about it.

This isnt the situation to hang your hat on and complain about as the grotesque failing. George floyd was murdered by police for no reason. While these people couldnt go inside for a few minutes while police engage I presume rioters down the street...and while their own city was burning previous nights. These gawkers were complete idiots and people like them with their phones out wanting to get some social media likes made all of the riots a lot worse. Complying with police when it is zero harm to anyone remains the wise thing to do especially when there are fking rioters down the street and sometimes hiding on private property.

Holy crap what terrible parent has their children exposed on the patio while riots are going on and the freaking national guard and Humvees are marching to engage?? Man, check yourself before you wreck yourself. Police told them to go inside and they acted like ignorant entitled WHITE dip****s.

Wrong many people in their neiborhood had all got together a d decided to make a presence on their porches and yards to protect their property...

Marshal law was of declared, military has zero authority over civilians.

I hope all those assholes are brought up on charges, courtmatialed and sued.

If they had illegally attacked my family they would have been greeted with return fire, only I only have live rounds...

Many people like all the other non existent neighbors in the video?? The video shows this person/house was the only one drawing attention. That doesnt really hold up.

Apparently you have not been following this, and reading interveiws.

I would tell any no go to **** himself if he tried to order me around, they have no authority over civilians, particularly when on your own property...

Freedom has gone to your head. Like you've never had to work for it and never had it truly jeopardized. It's not a cardinal sin against your freedom to be told to go inside. And youd be an ass and pointlessly putting yourself in danger to go out to the edge of your lawn and to fight it in this circumstance. Not in all circumstances though, if you are capable of considering circumstance at all.

This was the National Guard, not the police. They are trained for urban warfare, which requires your flanks to be secure. When they don't want someone behind or to the side of them, they're not kidding. These people were told multiple times to go home, go inside, etc. And even after the "light 'em up" order was issued, they were still given one more verbal warning to GTFO. They still didn't. So ONE shot was fired, apparently as a warning since it didn't hit anybody. And it worked. What else were they supposed to do in order to get these fools to follow simple instructions that were for everyone's safety?

You didn't watch the video did you, the whole squad opened up, it wasn't one shot.

And they had no legal right to order, or engage citizens.

I have extensive training in urban warfair.

You tell me where I missed the part where we were allowed to "light up" American citizens on their ****ing porch!!!

I watched the video in the link. There was one muzzle flash accompanied with a "pop smack" as the round came out and hit the house or something. Nobody else fired a shot. Do you know of a different video?

It's possible they're not allowed to do that. It's possible they shouldn't be allowed to do that even if they are. What I was getting at is, these folks got plenty of clear instructions and warnings beforehand yet continued sitting there doing nothing, so I reckon that's why people aren't more pissed about this. Maybe just a little pissed.

Great point. Context matters. So let's discuss context.

Those officers had ZERO legal right to order citizens inside their homes and the citizens had a legal right to be on their porch. The law enforcement officers opened fire on innocent civilians who were operating inside the law.

THAT'S the context. Those who fired the rounds or gave orders to should be immediately dismissed and charged with a crime.
