So, this is going to be a little bit different. Since most people don't like the people running for President right now, I figured I'd try something different. If you'd like, you may post a series of things YOU would do if YOU were elected President. Then, after an amount of time (maybe a day?), I'll add a poll with each username that posted their ideas, and the members can vote based on what they see.

So, here's an example:
What I Would Do
  • Lower Taxes
  • Create Jobs
  • Stop Illegal Immigration
And so on. You can be as specific (or not specific) as you want. Alright, let's see how this goes!

P.S. I'm also creating a liberal version. This will be almost like a primary. Then, we'll try and do a "General Election".

I'd like to nominate TurtleDude..

What I Would Do
  • Lower taxes; promote a 12.5% flat tax
  • Lower taxes on businesses; promote a 17.5% flat tax
  • Push to stop illegal immigration; if illegal immigrants serve in the military, they may be granted citizenship for their service
  • Repeal Obamacare (ACA), replace it with a program that would give tax breaks to insurance companies that provide an inexpensive, effective program for low/middle-class individuals/families
  • Focus more on helping veterans than we are now
  • Grow the military by promising veteran benefits, as we should be
  • Stand against countries that chant "Death to America"

((MAY BE UPDATED LATER))

At the very least Spud should be Press Secretary.

Immigration - Enforce the laws that are on the books and expand the immigration court. I'm not going to go out looking for illegals but when they pop up they're going to court and going back where they came from. If they were brought here as an infant or minor child then the parents go back with them. I'd also advocate for an expansion of the H1B process and employer certification with the condition that those in the program are allowed not more than one year presence and may not be accompanied by any family. They can reapply for a subsequent year but must depart before they can reapply.

Taxes - The primary change I'd look for in taxes is to do away with all federal refundable credits. They are a magnet for fraud and abuse. I would also advocate for the taxation of employer provided medical benefits but offset that with an "above the line" deduction for out of pocket medical. Everyone would be eligible for the deduction and it would be capped at something reasonable, say $10k per person. The other change I'd make is to do away with the MFJ return. Everyone would have to file their own return and the dependent exemptions would disappear in favor of a higher standard deduction.

Scope of government - Across the board I'd pursue opportunities to scale back the federal government in favor of state governments. This would apply to education, environment, energy and food production.

You've got my vote, and probably lots of others. too! I've wondered what would happen if we demonstrated by blocking streets in Mexico while waving American flags ? *shudders to imagine*

I would disagree on H1B. The persons are exactly the ones you would want to persuade to stay.

Moderator's Warning:
Not a "poll". Moved to appropriate section. Note, this isn't the basement. This is for discussion political positions; if things start getting personal it'll likely be ended and the ones causing it to be such will be dealt with
