Who won the first Republican Debate (Aug 23, 2023) and why?

Who won the first Republican Debate (Aug 23, 2023)?

She made some good points, but I don’t expect that her to take away (sway to her side?) many Trump supporters as a result.

What good points did she make? I didn't listen that closely and even though I had it on, my mind wandered in a real-life direction periodically.

Vivek is Trump in mini-me form. He said some whackadoodle stuff, including apparently calling Trump the best President in modern times, or something close to that. He has no relevant experience whatsoever. Like Trump when he first ran.

Interesting, but hard to imaging the MAGA folks voting for hm though.

Christie went after him and then Vivek let him have it, and he took Christie down brilliantly. In that respect, he was like Trump. The crowd boo'd Christie, and they cheered Vivek so when he called Trump the best President in modern times, the crowd agreed.

Trump lost because he was unpopular President that the majority of voters disliked and thus voted against. There no irregularities in the voting process that contributed to his election defeat.
Many states have already reined in some of the mass mailing of mail in ballots.

It's quite hilarious to me that how pro-Trump they have to be—because the Republican base now consists of pro-Trump lunatics—while running against him at the same time.

It's funny as hell.
I agree. They are in a severe push/pull relationship with themselves.

Wrong. Plenty of people like President Biden. He could beat Trump even if he ran a virtual campaign from his basement.

Oh, wait a minute. He already did that!

Yep, but as the great unifier and fixer of the Trump economic and immigration policies. If you believe that Biden did that then you are in the minority.

By who? It doesn't seem most GOP voters are looking for that quality given who is currently the front runner in the primaries.
Well, the question was asked to each of us, and I answered my opinion, so I guess ME, and probably "others".

Nice Sharpie work there. LOL…
I'm glad you noticed.

Just think, there were more views of that interview than the total number of people who voted in 2020.

What is "winning" in a Presidential debate?

Gaining attention, becoming a household name, getting on social media highlight reels.

If you are polling at 1%, the point is to get your name out there.

When people say Nikki Haley "won" the debate, I doubt they understand the point of these debates.

No matter how good/sound your policies are, it's meaningless if you are polling at 1%.

Donald Trump won the debate. The candidates having to answer questions about him when he wasn't even there just puts him up on a pedestal above them.

If I were him, i wouldn't participate in any debates until there was only one other candidate left.
I think his decision not to participate last night made sense. But Trump loves debates so I expect at some point, he'll join in and likely before there is just one other person besides him in the GOP primary.

I think Doug Bergum actually walked away the true winner of the night. He was poised, articulate, and got himself noticed.
While I couldn't call him the winner of the night, I sure agree with your last sentence!

I think you are right, because he always puts his ego before his best interest.

Yep, but as the great unifier and fixer of the Trump economic and immigration policies. If you believe that Biden did that then you are in the minority.
I would like President Biden more if he took the initiative to formulate a new age immigration policy that works better to drastically raise the amount of legal immigration allowed, fill American jobs, get more workers paying into Social Security, and expand America to make America greater.

That would help ease the border problem instead of making it worse, which is what previous policy did.

This is a stupid poll. Everyone will say the candidate he likes best one.
I chose Haley because I talked with a couple of Republicans who watched (separately) and they were both glowing about how she did.

While I couldn't call him the winner of the night, I sure agree with your last sentence!
That is why I call him the winner , as I never heard of the guy before. I imagine a lot of people were enlightened!

That doesn't seem to phase those potential voters though. Also, someone like Ramaswamy is supposed to be making the case for why he would be the better option.
It's pretty obvious most of them are running for VP.

I know that he doesn't have what it takes to appeal to a majority of primary voters but I honestly think this guy could beat Biden handily in the general election.
