Unsure what quantifies greatness. Churchill inspired his people to chin up, carry on, and stand up to German aggression. A lesser man would have brokered a deal with the opposition.

Don't be too hard on Obama, he will be gone soon.

Is it free if you owe your life to the government afterwards?
Things will never work until business, government AND the people gather and talk things over as equals .. key word .. equals .

Short term: I'm currently working on my bachelor's degree, and have invested too much money into college here in the USA to leave halfway through.

Long term: I know that as old white men die out, and the more progressive, more diverse youth come of voting age, the country will slowly but surely move towards a better society. I want to be part of this revolution.

Why did you pay for anything when education is free in China?

Of that list? FDR easily, though Churchill was a great wartime leader.

By contrast, Mao was a repugnant butcher without parallel, touting a body count that handily eclipsed Stalin and Hitler combined and is beneath contempt.
according to who ?

A message from the government of China, one of the most developed countries in the world, about Chairman Mao, the founder of modern China:

International Department Central Committee of CPC

More proof about the influence of Mao on the revolutionaries of forward-thinkers of the world:

You linked to a Chinese government site as a "source?" :lamo

Because they are known for "transparency" and "accountability?" :lamo

I will have to let a good family friend know how wonderful China and Mao are, as I'm sure he'll have much to say on the subject.

You have no idea how ignorant your statements sound. :3oops:

Gandhi is the only one on that list that I believe made a great contribution to humanity. Churchill and Roosevelt are given credit for winning the war but the truth is Russia and China did more to win the war. I would consider Stalin and Chiang Kai-shek to be great leaders for fighting a war but not for their humanitarian work. True great leaders of the twentieth century are the ones that made great contributions to humanity. You have only listed one of the thousands of great leaders. I guess I will throw Nelson Mandela in there as well. What about MLK and Mother Theresa. To be a great leader you do not have to be a president or dictator. Most truly great leaders were neither.

I said 20th century. 1900-1999.

As for the 21st century, Barack Obama isn't the best, but he isn't the worst. My top pick would either be Hugo Chavez for his devotion to economic equality and anti imperialism, or Xi Jinping for his anti corruption efforts in China.
There is, of course, no greatest .. this is silly , infantile .. I'd name Jackie Robinson, or Henry Leland .. The Q & Q of publicity are not, or should not be factors . BTW , we are closer politically, than you may think ..

I don't like seeing 32,000 deaths a year that are completely preventable.

And where the hell is your proof about Mao "murdering 20 million people." I know for a fact that the only way you came to that number is including Japanese and Nationalist casualties in WWII and the Chinese Civil War, or by counting victims of famines when there were far worse famines in capitalist ruled countries in South America or British ruled India (search up 1943 Bengal Famine.)
My ''version'' of gun control ... I think it can cut the 32K down to 320 .. and we can finally join the reast of the civilized world ..
NO guns for the terrorist, the criminal, the insane and the semi-insane
Federal and world level control
records, computerized
The NRA and its conservative supporters will hate this ..

Churchill and Gandhi should be near universals.

Although Chairman Mao died a quarter century ago, his legacy lives on through the constant leaps and bounds China makes in technology, industry, and education, inspired by the communist party's dedication to reform and an equal society for all, not just the emperors or warlords.

Wow - too bad DP doesn't have a comedy forum - your threads are a hoot.

The above live from your OP had me laughing uproariously.

You could be a spokesmodel for North Korea.

Poll depend son what your definition of a great leader is.

Mao?
Killer of tens of millions?
As opposed to Gandhi who saved hundreds of millions from foreign rule?
OP, get your ****ing priorities straight.

Gee I didn't know Mao was in power during WWII...the fact is Chiang Kai Shek was the leader of China until Mao forced him out in 1948, three years after WWII. The following might be of interest to you and help set the record straight.

Liek I said it depend son how you defien greatest leader.
If it is by seeing who can inspire others to kill the most people Mao wins hands down.

Don't be too hard on Obama, he will be gone soon.

I will leave that analysis in your hands.

Churchill was a Statesman, very rare, Mandela comes to mind as his equal. Obama is a politician, bucking for Statesman, only history will make that declaration

Hmmm....a sci-fi character....no surprise.

The first time in months (to my knowledge) that I actually read a reply of his to mine and sure enough...he again does not get it.

The pic I posted was a joke...duh.

PM me when you acquire a sense of humor or a sense of honor (btw).

In my opinion the greatest leaders of the 20th century could be Vince Lombardi or the Wizard of Westwood, John Wooden.
