Who should apologize for slavery?
The following options will be-
The US government should apologize for slavery.
The people should apologize for slavery.
Since elected officials represent us they should apologize in our name.
The people in Africa whose ancestors captured and sold people into slavery.
The governments of various countries in Africa were the slave trade once occurred.
Government officials in Africa apologizing in the name of their constituents.
No one should apologize for slavery.
I say no one should apologize for slavery. After all the offenders are no longer around nor are their victims. Anyone today apologizing for slavery is the equivalent of me apologizing to some guy in Vermont because the person who owned his house a hundred years earlier window was broken by some hoodlum.
I say nobody should apologize for it either... it should be recognized and remembered as a horrible thing though.
If the US government hasn't appologized yet, then they should, but I thought that the US had appologized already though. A government and a country takes into account everything it has done in the past, (national debt is an example) so they would need to appologize.
Normal citizens shouldn't though, because that was in the past, and I don't like the idea of a collective appology
If someone contributed to segregation then they should appologize though, but thats still about an individual appology.
God................
nah, he/she/it knows which side the bread is buttered, and the religious love for he/she/or it to dip his eggy soldiers into their soft boiled headsDoes he/she/it ever take responsibility for anything?
Yeah, it's Bush's fault.George W. Bush.

The government represents you. so what ever they do they do in your name,so the government apologizing is the same thing as you apologizing. If normal citizens shouldn't apologize because that was in the past then why should the government apologize? It takes two to tango and when slavery was legal a lot of normal people contributed to slavery by either owning or selling slaves or working as overseers.
But no one who is alive today has actually been a slave owner. The government on the otherhand is immortal, so the blood is still on their hands.
I suppose I am just wondering how the people would apologize for slavery.
Does everyone who had ancestors that contributed to slavery just sign some petition or something?
After all, it's the same government that facilitated slavery...
The government ought to apologize for slavery. After all, it's the same government that facilitated slavery, it never fell to a revolution.
And the economic effects of slavery are still obvious today. The average black family has around 1/6th the wealth of the average white family.
