Who is the most loathsome political figure in American history?

Lincoln's reputation in the south continued to be reviled until the past few decades. That's quite an accomplishment in being loathed, if you ask me.

That goes to show how successful the southern strategy really was.

90% of libertarians vote straight ticket GOP every election cycle. Just like the Tea Party.

Everybody knows this.

really? I never have so you are wrong.

I'd say Boss Tweed. Andrew Jackson. There's lots I'm not thinking of at the moment I'm sure.

Unless you were an immigrant. You loved Tweed then. It was the WASPs that really hated that dude

But his graft, bribery and corruption were legendary.

And let's not forget the shift to neoliberalism under Thatcher and him. Can I vote for a political figure outside the US?

As a self-appointed representative of the British people I am happy to cede ownership of Margaret Thatcher to the USA for as long as you want her.

Thought you would try - she faced down the unions bringing governments down and tamed the hard left like Arthur Scargill, Red Robbo etc.

You might prefer a UK run by the Socialist Worker Party, the rest of us don't.

Ah, Mr Chaos. I've been expecting you.

LOL cede ownership haha.. now that is funny on a Sunday morning.

Always a pleasure to keep you on the straight and narrow; correcting your history of the UK. :2wave:

They say that history is written by the victors, but the vanquished have longer memories. One day, my right-wing friend, one day. ¡Venceremos!

I find it fascinating when people criticize FDR for the Japanese internment camps and crapping on the Constitution(and yes he and Edgar did do that), but then those same people will defend the Patriot Act, Warrantless searches, Gitmo, the NSA, etc.

I think one reason FDR went with the camps was to avoid American vs. American violence

And visa versa.

It's also similar to people who continually spout that government is wholly incompetent, yet somehow the police always... ALWAYS... do the right thing, then turn around and criticize the Justice Department and whoever the Attorney General is at the moment.

FDR in terms of how badly he screwed up our Constitution
McCarthy was as scum bag but his long term deleterious impact was far less

The peoples Congress agreed with FDR.

The Supreme Court agreed with FDR.

By virtue of being elected four times - the American people agreed with FDR.

You can see just how far on the fringe some folks are when they take a president rated as GREAT in survey after survey after survey from experts over the past sixty plus years and one of the top three ever and vilify him because of ones own marginalized extremism.

No American citizens are being rounded up and sent to camps for years on end today.

who cares, majority rule has been responsible for some of the worst atrocities in human history.

and the supreme court was his ***** whipped lap dogs

Historians, political scientists and other experts who rate FDR as one the three GREAT PRESIDENTS of all time care.

that means nothing. Because the rating is not specified. I agreed that when it came to FDR getting his way with congress and trampling over the constitution he was "great"

he did more harm to America than any individual in history. that lots of socialist fan boys applaud what he did is a given. he raped the 10th amendment
