If you want to call Bill Clinton Bill, George Bush, Jr., George, Jr., Mitt Romney Mitt, Hillary Clinton Hillary, Donald Trump Donald, Joe Biden Joe, and Kamala Harris Kamala, fine. If you prefer to call them B(ill) Clinton, Bush, Jr., Romney, H(illary) Clinton, Trump, Biden, and Harris, fine, too. But be consistent.
It's true that I prefer last names, because that is how we refer to professional people that we don't know if they are serious professional people, e.g., scientists, artists, musicians, lawyers, etc.
If you insist on calling the men by their last names and the women by their first names, you are insulting the women by treating them as overly familiar relative to the men. That is what people did when guys were CEOs and women were their secretaries. That inconsistency IS undignified and it IS misogynistic. It would be misandrist of me, too, to call the guys Bill, George, Jr., Mitt, Donald, and Joe and still call the women H(illary) Clinton and Harris.
And a major reason I think so in Harris's case is that Harris kept her own last name in her political career after she married Doug Emhoff.
Queen Hillary? Princess Kamala? What degenerate aristocratic rot. No self-respecting American woman wants to be a queen or a princess, because that is all about royalty, not democratic human values.
And you bet I suffered in my lifetime because of the inconsistency. When I was young, people laughed at using "Ms." also, as if people had a right to call you Miss or Mrs. because they had a right insult your working dignity by referring to you, and everyone else, as if what mattered were whether or not you were a guy's sex toy.
