It's scary that people home schooling dont understand that 4 yr olds can learn lots of things besides colors and blocks and how their minds grow when they are properly instructed...that exercises strengthen their ability for critical thinking, etc. Including important social skills.

Working to provide for their families. These programs almost always more than pay for themselves because it allows a lot of people to participate in or participate more in the labour force than they otherwise would have.

It gives people the freedom to work and have kids. Just because you won’t use the program doesn’t mean it shouldn’t exist.

More people working, more $ circulating in the economy, more buying, so supporting more jobs and services, more people paying more taxes, better infrastructure developed, etc. It seems these basics do need to be reiterated.

Children’s vocabulary skills are linked to their economic backgrounds.

By 3 years of age, there is a 30 million word gap between children from the wealthiest and poorest families.

The plan, which Whitmer has pushed since she first ran for governor in 2018, could become a reality with Democrats in full control of the state government for the first time in decades.

Building on the state's Great Start Readiness Program covering at-risk children of low-income families, the proposal would ensure all 110,000 of the state's 4-year-olds can attend prekindergarten. The plan would save families on average about $10,000 in childcare costs, according to a statement from the governor’s office.

“Every parent knows an early start is critical to their child’s future," Whitmer said in a statement to The Associated Press."

1) Virtually every study concerning language acquisition have concluded that the gaps in vocabulary development and usage in different socio-economic classes prior to entering Kindergarten has a direct impact on success in school and later in life!

2) This disparity in language development is evident as early as 18 months and by increases over time - by age 3 some children will have been exposed to as many as 30 million more words than their peers!

3) Children with parents in the professions will be exposed to approximately 3 1/2 more words per hour than their welfare counterparts - 2,150 vs 600!

4) Differences in a young child's exposure to vocabulary and language development can be measured by the acquisition of different neurological patterns that are not evident
in their peers!
