I thought Whites Only clubs--and Mens Only clubs-- got deep 6'd years ago?
If I were a pol I sure wouldn't keep my membership in one. Well, I wouldn't want membership in one anyway, but especially if I was a pol. Whitehouse must really have deep feelings for it. And he probably would if it was whites only or not; clubs are special to a lot of people. A place to relax with like minded friends, where everybody knows your name...I'm sure he's been in it forever.

That said, I'm kind of meh on it. I play in a bar band. All 3 members are white. That doesn't make us bigots. A yacht club is, lets face it, going to have a lot fewer black members. Before condemning this, I wonder how many blacks were denied membership.

I went to college with Sheldon. He was a senior on the shooting team when I was a freshman. He was JV, I ended up the year as #1 since our 76 Olympian took the year off due to an eye injury from playing football. Sheldon never was hostile towards the freshman who kept him off the varsity-instead he gave me lots of good advice. However, I was shocked when I later found out he ended up being a lefty senator. The guy oozed WASPY Privilege. He had gone to an exclusive boarding school -St Pauls' in New Hampshire His family was old money and wealthy. The jackets he wore in college were easily several hundred dollars. And as a college man, he sure didn't espouse the liberal BS he does now. So him belonging to an all -white country club (which are fairly common in that state-my late grandfather had a summer home in RI) is no surprise.
