Apparently there are castles in the USA and not just Disney's!Always wished to visit a castle. Bucket List item, if I win a large lottery afore I perish.

The state of Denial.
Unofficially, we're the 51st state. But for some reason, the other 50 refuse to acknowledge us.
Colorado has many things going for it!
I would love to go back to California, but I sure can't afford it.
I'm from the mighty county of Bedfordshire.
Is Cambridge in that county?
That's in Cambridgeshire.
Weirdly that was the one I was trying to recall when I searched for "castle in the USA" and found so many!!I had no idea there were so many.
The only one I recall visiting is Hearst Castle, but it is more a villa bordering on a palace than a castle.
Similar Northeast to Sunbelt story. I was born in Albany NY, started my career in New York City, where I lived for two years before moving to Denver in 1981, where I have lived since. I grew up skiing, climbing and backpacking in the Adirondacks (which I still love), but took my act west.Born in Wilkes Barre, PA, raised in the Lehigh Valley, PA. Moved to Atlanta Georgia in 1976 at age 20. Never left.

This is one of the more interesting ones .... this guy made it his life's work to build a personal castle in a reasonably remote area of Colorado... largely funded by people that stop in to see how its going...I had no idea there were so many.

I have visited New York, the State, and the city. Been across Colorado and Nevada numerous times, lived in Arizona and Texas, and I am now living in Idaho. We no doubt have traipsed some of the same paths.Born in upstate NY where I lived until I joined the service at 18. Have lived in Texas, Colorado, Nevada and Idaho and have been in AZ for more than 20 years.
Thanks! But, I am thinking, an English or European castle would have more to it for me than an American castle. More something, flavor?Apparently there are castles in the USA and not just Disney's!
I know there are parts of CA that I would love, but the Lancaster area wasn't one of them. The wind was so bad that the trees along the streets grew at a 45 degree angle!
I saw that across parts of Texas when the leaves were off the trees, all the branches bending to the North as the predominant wind was from the south.
The farthest north I made it in California was to Disneyland.
I could still kick my butt for not making it up to San Francisco while I lived in California, the city of my origin.
That starfish could probably still be animated if it was removed from the plastic. Yeah, when we are young we don't think about the consequences of our little gee-gaws like starfish key fobs and rabbits foot lucky charms.I visited San Francisco (and Disneyland) when I was little. I still remember the lime tree outside the motel (I thought that was just the coolest thing), orange groves, cables cars and Fisherman's wharf. I still have a key chain from Fisherman's wharf. I was, of course, way too young to drive, but it has a red starfish encased in plastic and I wanted it, so.... Nowdays, I wouldn't want one - poor starfish.
How retro. What about these 20th century beauties? You don't even have to fill the moat.Similar Northeast to Sunbelt story. I consider my move to Colorado to be one of my best decisions as I have thoroughly enjoyed living here. I won't leave, though I am thinking of retiring to Southwest Colorado.

I am not from a US state
