So nothing will make you worry about the absence of the first lady from the public spotlight? Don't you think the American people need to know where she is?

I don't really care where she is. The farther she is away from Trump, the happier she is, so leave her alone. She has earned a little peace and quiet.

The first lady is very much a part of the administration. She started the be best campaign and now she has not been seen since...

Maybe she is being her best by staying out of the spotlight.

I'm sorry - I'm not much for gold diggers, but this woman didn't sign on for this ****. She married this tub of goo, hoping he'd die off soon and she'd have his millions. She never signed up to be ridiculed and harassed and questioned every time she bats an eye.

As likely as not she is probably trying to work through a major case of PTSD. We can only imagine the circle of hell she inhabits. And no easy way out with no end in sight. Doing wife without parole. She needs all the down time she can get.

She is a classy woman who has earned the right to be respected. I wish her the best.

I wonder if she has a temper. Man oh man, I do, and with some of the situations she is placed in? I'd be throwing **** and breaking **** to beat the band. They'd know when I was pissed. "Oh ****. Supe's on a tear again. Batten down the hatches."

Obviously Melania has an airtight pre-nup and has no choice but to sit back and take whatever Uncle Donny does. She is taking this opportunity to bow out and hide from the embarrassment that is her life now.

Can't say as I blame her.

I think this is comparable to if Meghan Markle goes missing for a couple of days. You bet the British Press would be all over that.

She's not missing, she's at home recovering from surgery.

I mean, when a celebrity gets hospitalized, and she was one before. They get speculations about them dying almost instantly. Sometimes even fake death reports appear and the PR team has to clear it up. I don't know why Melania of all people is treated with such dignity. I highly doubt the same people would allow a different first lady to not appear in public for 22 days. I take it as people are scared to speculate and that the story is just not that big a deal yet what with The President's constant insert foot into mouth tweestorms and on-screen appearances. He takes all the air out of the room.
What reason on earth is there not to treat her with dignity? I am kind of in favor of treating people, even public celebrities with dignity as a default position. And I as an avowed liberal and virulent Trump-hater, sees no reason to change my basic view, because this particular celebrity is Trumps wife, organizes an Easter egg hunt and speaks at the occasional republican gathering. the woman is about as innocuous as a first lady can get.

When a celebrity or celebrity wife goes MIA after a minor surgery they are usually recovering from plastic surgery. Melania is not free from plastic work so it's a strong possibility she was having something done or a touch up.

The less of the Trump family I see involved in politics, the better I like it.

She had surgery. There is no worry at all.

When you are sick and need recovery, you stay in bed, not like some unnamed female that ran for president and started having random seizures.

23 days recovery for a minor surgery? What went wrong?

Not to derail the thread, but Meghan is part of the Royalty and is therefore of interest to the British.

Melania has gone missing before. She stayed in NYC for months early on while Barron finished the school year. I think she wants to be a mother rather than some alleged spokesperson for the country.

For that I commend her.

It pains me to watch my fellow liberals race toward their own Pizzagate.

Wut? Like hell I did.

My bad! It wasn’t this thread, I see, but I thought you started a Melania thread a day or two ago about leaving her alone......

The day that any of us resort to violence over this is the day that that concern will be a serious one.

C'mon, Cardinal. You know better than to compare apples to oranges.

That's not the part about Pizzagate I'm referring to. I mean the acceptance of a narrative without reason.

The thing that works for and against the CT, is the media response.

If there really was this Deep state conspiracy out to get Swampy and Family, then you bet your asschecks that all of them would be clamoring on the WH lawn (which I hear is full of sinkholes) itching to get a picture of Melania for proof of life. It's part of the reason why I made the poll, though. When does it become a concern? For the most part the media is reacting exactly like you are.

I also wonder if Melania is analyzing all this, because as much as she hates being first lady, at least the paparazzi are kept at bay.

The reason the media isn't making a big deal over this is because they know that if they do and Melania is seen the next day in perfect health, they'll look stupid and trump will never let them hear the end of it.

Obvious trap is obvious. It can't even be considered a tiger trap with a few unconvincing branches thrown over the top to disguise it. It's more like a tiger trap with multiple signs in every known language around it saying, "WARNING: TIGER TRAP. YOU WILL LOOK REALLY STUPID IF YOU FALL INTO IT."

A pizza shop and the First Lady of the United States are two very different matters.

Part of me thinks this is exactly what he is waiting for. The one thing he is good at is trolling.

Cardinal, I understand your concern that we shouldn't stoop to the CT levels of the rabid right. We cannot let their pathetically low standard serve as a guide to how we should act.

But, you gotta admit that it's a little odd how long FLOTUS has been...AWOL. ;)

It's odd how the White House has been dealing the PR aspect of it, and it's traditionally odd for a First Lady to be absent this long. But you're missing the forest for the trees: this is less about Melania's absence and more about the fact that we just have a White House that is hostile to the press and secretive as a matter of course. You're focusing in on their silence about Melania, when in fact they're secretive about everything.
