What is a "sodomite"?

What's the biblical definition?
What's your definition?
What's "the" definition?

Apparently a woman wearing men's clothing was considered a sodomite??????.

Famous sodomites might be:

anthony-weiner-sexting-1.jpg

Also - what other things from the OT do you find outrageous and/or frightening?

For example, the idea that a child born out of wedlock can't enter into heaven because he/she is a bastard?
And even more ridiculous, that the next 10 generations of that bastard's offspring can't either??????

We're all born with original sin?

Other examples?

What about God killing innocent babies to prove a point?

If you ever have to work sundays it usually gets a laugh out of co-workers to bring up "He who works the Sabbath shall be stoned". Nice little play on words

Sabbath and being stoned go together naturally

.

That's not Black Sabbath, that is just Tony Iommi and a few scabs claiming to be Black Sabbath.

This fits the bill much better ;)

Anthony Weiner isn't a sodomite, he's a text messagite.

Heh I knew someone would point that out lol. Personally I think Dio was much better than Ozzy even when Dio sang Ozzy songs.

This fake duet is pretty cool though

Interesting. Not a peep out of Bronson. He apparently loves to use the term "sodomite" a lot. Yet for some reason there's no posts here regarding his views on what one is?

Hmmmmmmmm........

The OT is ripe with pungent crap for rules and regulations / rituals, etc.

I don't think I can even narrow it down.

I usually keep one in the john though, for a good laugh while taking the browns to the super bowl and in case I run out of toilet paper.

A Sodomite is nothing more than a person from the ancient city of Sodom. The term sodomite is used to describe a person who partakes in sexual misconduct due to the story of Sodom and Gomorrah.

this^^^^^^

also, given the current legal definition of "sodomy" basically any person who engages in any sexual activity other than penis to vagina contact is a sodomite. have you ever gotten/given oral sex? then you are a sodomite.

Pretty much. The story is found in Genesis 19 and specific reference is in verses 4 and 5:
...the men of the city, the men of Sodom, both young and old, all the people to the last man, surrounded the house. And they called to Lot, “Where are the men who came to you tonight? Bring them out to us, that we may know them.”
The phrase "that we may know them" is synonymous with having sex with them - it's a common Hebraic idiom.

A similar event occurred in Judges 19, where a Levite was visiting a town in Gibeah and staying with someone there:
...the men of the city, worthless fellows, surrounded the house, beating on the door. And they said to the old man, the master of the house, “Bring out the man who came into your house, that we may know him.”
Regardless, the point is that "sodomy" generally refers to the behavior of those men of Sodom who wanted to have sex with ("know") the two men visiting Lot. The bible doesn't use the word "sodomy" per se; but the behavior is nevertheless regarded variously as "worthless," "wicked," "exceedingly wicked," "abominable" and so forth...

Of note too, the particular examples of those men wanting to "know" (have sex with) other men - those other men were in fact 1) two of God's angels sent to rescue Lot and, 2) a Levite priest. Neither of which are exactly mitigating circumstances but only serve to heighten the terrible sense of such behavior.

In the first instance, the town of Sodom was utterly destroyed
In the second, a civil war ensued that destroyed the tribe of Benjamin.

I don't know aout outrageous or frightening, but the original biblical definition of adultry was a married woman having sex with any man other than her husband or a man having sex with any married woman not his wife. The difference between then and now was the married status allpiled to the woman only. A married man with a non-married woman was considered alright.

You don't find the Noah's Ark thing frightening? Or Passover?
