I'm wondering what Obama's strategy will be this year. What do Obama supporters feel comfortable upholding as "job well done"-type things?
The only thing I can think of off the top of my head is that he got bin Laden. However, it is debatable whether or not anyone else would have done the same thing given the same circumstances. (I am firmly convinced that had Bush gone into Pakistan unannounced, Libs would be screaming their heads off and tearing out their hair about how W violated the sovereignty of another nation and that he should have included Pakistan in the takedown.)
Basically, what are Obama supporters proud of? Why does "their guy" deserve to be their guy? Convince me.
His main thrust will be pointing out the uncanny similarities between Romney and the man he replaced.
If he's smart he will.
But then Romney has a lot of ammo on the failures of Obama's presidency.
He is going to play the things such as gays in the military and a more accepting stance on gay marriage to the hit. He is going to need every last social liberal he can get to nail down a 2nd term. As for the economy, unless something drastic happens in the positive way, which is all but a certainty NOT to happen, he can only run on the how bad it was and how he saved the country from a 1930's depression. (most libs are still believing this) but can he get the moderates on board with this? He is also going to do everything he can to paint a rosier picture of the economy than what it really is. Here is the problem though, too many conservative outlets are going to counter this with the truth.Μολὼν λαβέ;1060625151 said:If he uses it wisely.
Obama has received his share of cheers for his vocalized "support" for gay marriage and the hiatus he placed on younger undocumented aliens being deported. Everyone knows these are just ineffective election year gestures to garner votes, which are practiced by many politicians.
I call it throwing darts. He's hoping for something to stick in a big way. However, he can't run on slogans any more like "hope and change." We all found out that hope and change is not an effective plan of action to get the USA moving toward economic growth and prosperity.
I also wonder though how long he will be able to convince swing voters it's the republicans fault or its GWB's fault that he isn't a more effective leader.
It will be interesting to see the outcome in November.
Hes going to campaign as the opposite of romney as he has been and the only alternative to far right ideals.

If I were Obama I would focus almost primarily on the economy. Point out that when he took office we were hemmoraghing jobs at an alarming rate, he has turned that around. We have had several consecutive months of job growth, although not as much as we would like, it is still a vast improvement over the previous administration. I would point out that under Obama, we have added more jobs in the last year, than the entire 8 years of the economy under GWB, so we are moving in the right direction.

ETA Press Release: Unemployment Insurance Weekly Claims Report
Essentially, Obama needs to distinguish the biggest difference between himself and Romney. A vote for Romney is a vote to return to the same failed "trickle down" economic policies that fail time and again vs. a vote for Obama to continue our steady course towards economic recovery.
Are you serious, job growth? We continue to lose 3+ million jobs a month and gain 169,000. I guess if he wants to try the "better than nuthin" strategy, good luck to 'em.
GDP growth 2% or less and 3 million new jobless claims every four weeks, is that what you expect him to win on? Really?
Might wanna take a second gander at those figures, to stem off further humiliation.I'm afraid you misinterpreted your own article, it seems you mistook the total INS data for the initial claims figures.
He has no good record to run on. He'll need to go negative from the start which will back fire on him. He has no successes to speak of.

After that....I would focus on what he has tried to do for the middle/working class. I would point out that the GOP has essentially held the middle class hostage in order to protect tax cuts for the wealthiest of Americans (the GOP Base). I would hammer home that Romney and the rest of the GOP do not care about the middle class, Obama does.
I would point out Romney's failure as a Governor in Massachusetts. I would focus on the falsity of his job creation claims and how many jobs were outsourced while he was in the private corporate world.

He'll do his best to convince us the economy is and has been getting better, and that he'll actually try to keep some of his promises this time. Fool me once...
