The Democrats in Massachusetts are a shameless bunch of socialists, trying to bypass democratic processes when it benefits them.

I love it, so the Democrats change the rules when the potential gubernatorial appointment could be someone they don't like - in the name of Democracy, Equality and other choice buzzwords. Then request it be changed back - in the name of Democracy, Equality and other choice buzzwords.

I'm all for Machiavellian politics, but this is a new level of shamelessness.

It's sad to think that Ted Kennedy, who has been pushing hard for health care reform his entire career, may not be able to cast his vote when it actually has a chance of passing, but changing the succession rules isn't the the way to go.

Ted's wrong on this one.

Socialism is an economic system that can be implemented in a country with any type of government. You can have a socialist democracy. I do not see what the label "socialists" has to do with any of this.

Excellent point. But I think you're only going to confuse the already confused even further with little factoids like this.

We "socialists" up here in Massachusetts love and adore Senator Kennedy. Don't you think his concerns are justifiable (not saying they are correct)? If he really believes in the Public Option, he should try to help his fellow proponents as best as possible before his passing.

I'm not quite sure why he supports the Public Option. He'd probably be sentenced to die by the Obama appointed deathpanels to help ration the care for younger, better looking Senators.

Succession laws really need to be written into state constitutions, so that partisan **** like this doesn't constantly happen. If it was difficult to change it and similarly difficult to change it back, perhaps lawmakers would be think twice before doing this.

Are you so ignorant not to know that appointments are legal in other States?

Florida is about to do this now with Republicans....LOL

Kennedy is asking for the rules to be changed to what Florida has now already.

I'm not saying that one system is better or worse than the other, I'm just saying it should be written into the state constitution so that it can't constantly be changed at the drop of a hat, depending on the political circumstances. States should pick a succession system and stick to it.

I agree with this wholeheartedly. It's not that one system is better than the other, but that the rules, once made, should be adheared to. I have a world of respect for Ted Kennedy, despite some of his early mistakes in life, but he is in the wrong in this case.

You have a world of respect for a murderer? That speaks volumes.

Bush left a young woman to drown in a creek? I didn't know that. Gotta link?

Oh, you're calling Ted a murderer.

Perhaps you have some evidence the police don't have?

All the evidence was there, but the Massachusetts judicial system chose to ignore it because they "love and adore" the scumbag, as Sanitas put it.

No rational person accuses Kennedy of murder. He acted incredibly poorly, made some serious mistakes, and probably could have been convicted of manslaughter, but that is about as far as it goes. I would probably not bum a ride from him, but I do respect his years of service for his country and his constituents.

There really is no need to be so over the top in everything you say.

Look on the bright side, even though his comments may have a 'over the top' quality, they'll never leave a date in the middle of a creek to die.

And look at him arguing the 'con' to Manslaughter/Murder, clearly he is a morally bankrupt Republican hack.

I would rather he had served 20 years in prison than 50 years in congress for that.

Reading over his bills he is pretty split on how much damage he has done to how much good he has done for this country. I wonder at how much damage he could have done had he beaten Carter for the nomination as was his wont.
Carter hit it out of the park but I dont doubt Ed could have really tried to screw us all just as bad.

It seems people have some really strong opinions about Ted Kennedy........

Meh, I just have a strong inclination to criticize the dubious effect the Chappaquiddick Triathlon has on Congressional integrity.

By Chappaquiddick Triathlon, I mean of course: drink, drive, swim. Disqualification if your partner isn't left on the car, may need to give her a solid knock with any trusty pieces of lumber.

Ted Kennedy, you'll let him decide on your mother's healthcare but you wouldn't get in the same car with him. I just have some sort of mental aversion to such mental dissonance.

Some people would have really liked to have had their daughter alive as well.

Your boy ran and didn't man-up till he could fashion some excuse. But he got his come-uppin's didn't he?
