What one idea would most improve our political sytem?

Yep, that's how it would work.

Wow, i got that right lol
I feel better but im still not sure i like that to much potential for a non winner to be a winner i think lol if that made sense.

maybe if we ever got to the point of no parties or at least decently equal 4 parties.

neat system though, i think id be more comfortable with a system like that for lower government officials though

you just lied, again lol

I dont think this is going anywhere, do you? You're not even trying to engage youre just spewing unsubstantiated insults & lol'ing in a weird way. I think we're done, dont you?

I'm at home in Jersey. I may just go into work, early (power lines there are underground) or I may take my chances at home. Either way, I'm not looking forward to the next 24 hours.

Well you know im here in the burg but in the rural area. Im a little more in land than you but still hoping for the best.

Im running High Voltage Test in an environmental chamber thats gas heated and nitrogen cooled, i REALLY dont want any power lose or flickers lol

With my luck it will hit on the drive home.

I'm about 30 miles from the coast, so that's not too bad.

Be careful on that drive. Last year during the Halloween "Snowpacolypse" a tree fell on someone's car while they were driving.

I kind of stole this from the economy question cause i liked it.

what one single idea or a few related ideas do you think would most improve our political system?

Id like 3 candidates(parties) minimum running for president all the times meaning involved in the debates and everything else.
Congress is no longer allowed majorities.

those are my two what do you think would help?

I wish we didint have any parties but oh well that aint happening.

Redistrict to make all races competitive, no Republican or Democrat strongholds if possible, or abet very weak ones. Then move to open primaries where the top two vote receivers from all candidates move to the general election.

That I think will solve a great many of our problems.

I like that on paper, how would you redistrict though?

anything that can accomplish the goal of deluding right vs left and bring more parties/candidates to the table im in favor of.

Objective and Paul, How about this:

In the primary election for Presidential races, only private financing is available. Which ever candidate on all 50 states and various voting territories, districts and common wealths makes it above some threshold (say 10% or whatever you want) recieves public financing for the general election. Private financing is therefore barred for the general election.

How California is attempting to do it. Take voter data on where people live and then start changing districts so that no party has any clear majority. That might be hard say in the Bay Area, but at least we could reduce Democrat strength to the 50% or 60% rather than what it is now. This will require a large amount of data no question, but I think it would basically eliminate extremists entirely from our system.

I think most rational people can agree with that.

that could work, not sure i fully understand though, dont you think the threshold would have to be much high not to have to many canidates though

This is the sort of complication I was trying to deal with before the insults and accusations of lying were thrown at me.

You see under such a scenario public funding would be limited on an arbitary basis that wouldnt be "fair", for example it allows private finance, as we have now, so the system would be as fair, or as unfair as it is now, but with a twist that we are also then forced to fund parties who we may not agree with or who might potentially even persecute us.

The notion of public funding, or being forced to give to parties is a really horrible idea when you think about it & even a civil rights abuse.

I mean think about it in 1930's Germany, youd have Jews, gypsies & others forced to fund Hitler, how could that be good?

Its also shown to prop up the status quo and to stifle change.

1.)sooo are you just talking state level then and keeping the EC then? Id love to get rid of it but only if other things change along with it.
2.) you woudld think i just talked to somebody yesterday i think that wants MORE partisanship. go lord
