He doesn't know enough history to even know what America used to be like.

It's pretty clear the Trump is trying to bring back the "Gilded Age" of the robber barons. He already has made the White House into a tackey showpiece for the wealthy and his ballroom is going to be bigger than the residence. After claiming he was going to pay for it himself for months we find it is just another way to extort money from corporations for favors and he is not going to pay a dime for it.
