It's important to remember that modern day republicans have no values or beliefs outside of the extremely vague "our leader should be strong, taxes should always be lower" generalities.

I'm old enough to remember them mocking Obama for:

• Being a celebrity (because he was popular lol)
• Holding big rallies (he thought he was a god king because he dared to hold big rallies)
• Agreeing to talk to dictators without pre-conditions
• Didn't agree with the war in Iraq

And then Trump came around and republicans form a cult around someone who:

Everyone would do well to be aware that their only interest is power. Most conservatives/republicans would gladly vote in Trump "dictator for life" if it meant that they would get some of their policies in place.
