What did you have for dinner? -Part dois

I feel like your posts here are a cry for help. Where can we go to contribute to your commissary fund?
It was pretty good. The meatballs had this teriyaki shit on them, and the carrots had some spice shit. The rice had a lot of rice shit going for it.

Sounds like you're setting me up for a prison wallet joke.

French bread sandwich with roast beef, provolone, mayo, lettuce, tomato, onion, oil, vinegar, basil, oregano. Jimmy John's delivery. Ben and Jerry's caramel core ice cream for dessert.

Roast beef sandwich with lettuce, tomato, mayo. Cottage cheese with chives and chopped olives, everything rice cakes, a mandarin and...a Moxie!!! I love love love Moxie and it's tough to find outside of Maine. My MOW delivery guy was just in Maine on vacay and brought me back a 12 pack. It made the meal.

No, just an easy homemade knock off of chocolate eggcreams that you'd drink at a soda fountain, way back in the day.

I mix less than an inch of Hershey's syrup, depending on the size of the glass, with 1/4 - 1/2 inch of 2% milk. Mix well with a long handled small spoon, keep stirring more slowly while slowly adding cold Perrier mineral water or plain salt-free seltzer/carbonated water.

Careful at top of glass so it doesn't overflow, I sip when needed. It's foamy halfway down, but a quick dessert, tastes good and not very fattening. Satisfies the sweet tooth when you have nothing else around.
I'm going to try that.

After reading this, I had to look into Moxie. Is it close to root beer?

My kid is visiting the NE this week. I may have her pick up a twelve-pack.

I had never heard of it either.

Like root beer but bitter I guess? I'd try it.

Since the price of Coke and Pepsi shot up, I've become a bit of a connoisseur of cheap colas. RC, Sam's, Summit, Faygo, - any 2L I can get for about a buck. Shaking things up with the occasional regional find keeps me interested.

MaryP knows all the right people.
I never even heard of Moxie, so I looked it up.
Glad you enjoyed it. :)

It ain't cheap but a NC favorite is Cheerwine.(y)

Stopped by the farmers market to get some butter and passed the seafood counter. Large NC shrimp were on special, so I got a pound steamed with Old Bay and circled back and got some fresh corn to go with the butter and a loaf of crusty bread.

That sounds really good, but I'm already persona non grata for bringing crab to the table the other day. Might have to sneak out for lunch.

Nothing special for the entree, but one of the side was beets that were raised by a long time friend of mine on his farm, canned using a recipe that has remained unchanged for over 100 years.
Pure and simple goodness, something that seems lacking nowadays.

I'd love to have you at our annual crab pickin' next month. tables lined with newspaper, butter cocktail sauce, corn, slaw, baked and stewed potatoes, Ritz crackers, potato salad, bread, desserts and the beverages of your choice. Plenty of napkins and wipes.

I fondly remember crab pickings at my, sorry to say, ex SIL's house in Baltimore. The table lined with newspaper...

Good times, huh, sis? You'd be welcome, as well. What could I serve for you?

Leftover potato, macaroni salads, coleslaw, and beans from the 4th, kosher dill, hot dog, iced tea.

Oh I've done that! I call it "grazing." Grabbing a bit of whatever's there, in whatever amounts are there.

Yum! Do you have a Jersey Mikes near you? How about Blimpies? Been doing comparisons recently.
