What are you listening to? ver. 15.0

Just hearing this man's voice takes me back to yesteryear...

Eva Cassidy - Fields of Gold

I love her take on this song. (and apparently Sting has commented that he does as well). What's not to love?

She died way too young.

Some good old school white boy soul

Boz Scaggs, Silk Degrees

(btw, the backing band are session players who went on to form Toto. The level of musicianship just does not get better)

the original album-Jesus Christ, Superstar, had some of the best rock vocals ever recorded. Ian Gillan-the singer who made Deep Purple what it was, recorded his entire roll as Christ in three hours. He, and Murray Head (who played Judas) were surrounded by a very strong supporting cast including Evonne Elliman as Mary Magdalene

the first cut has Gilland and Head, the second is the most famous vocal track from the record

Many years later TD, that was our HS musical.

Good times.

I may have posted this once before but I never get tired of hearing it.

Gimme Shelter, the Rolling Stones featuring Lisa Fischer

Fischer is an anomaly in the music world. Despite having a grammy award winning album of her own she's happiest being a backup singer and she's a damned good one.

My wife and I saw this live at Shea Stadium during the Steel Wheels tour in 1989 (not sure if this video is from that tour or not). My wife, who was 8 months pregnant at the time, worked for the Mets and got seats way up front for us and her equally pregnant girlfriend and husband. The security guards, who really looked more like bouncers than anything, took two seats and placed them in the aisle so the women could see the stage unobstructed because as it turned out people stood on their chairs through the entire show.

Queen - Fat Bottomed Girls

Album: "Diary of a Madman" - Ozzy

Another haunting rendition of "The Sound of Silence"...I literally got chills...what a voice!

"wait for the ricochet"

I have always said Ian G was one of the greatest hard rock singers of all time-this might be one of the best arguments in favor of that ever

massive cool-probably tough to find someone to do Ian G's Gethsame-one of the great rock vocal performances ever. the bass line in Murray Head's "Strange thing mystifying" is awesome

caught the SW tour in Cincinnati 89. Opening act was Cory Glover/Living Color. I have read that more than a few critics rate this tune the finest by the Stones (tough decision given so many really good ones)

For sure.

I love the Australian version too. The Australian cast was so good. John Farnham as Jesus was beyond awesome.

when I was going through "confirmation class" at our local Episcopal diocese, we went on a retreat for a weekend. One of the priests was a pretty good guitarist and we spent an entire day listening to JCSS and "GodSpell" and having a discussion which was a more "accurate" reflection on the history surrounding the last supper etc. I think my main contribution 46 years ago or so was noting IG was the best vocalist on either record and the bass player on JCSS was "wicked good". Now I watched the Ted Neely "movie" production and it was decent. I will have to listen to the Australian version since I am not familiar with it

Unfortunately they don't list the singers. Nashville Jam has had a numbers of singers with multitude of back up singers.

I have seen the two older long hair guys before but can't remember them. The two black female back up singers are easy on the eyes too.
