Ok, I figured this forum was the best place to pose such a question.

I enjoy playing computer games every so often. On top of the most popular city-simulators like Caesar and Civilization, I'm very interested in computer games that are politically/government themed. Here are some of my favorites:

The Political Machine

The Political Machine - Your Political Battleground!I have only played the 04 election edition which features Kerry and Bush on the front cover. Overall, this is a great game but it is incredibly difficult to progress after the third or fourth election (I personally have found it to be impossible without cheating to get more money).

ECO Tycoon: Project Green

Eco Tycoon: Project Green - ValuSoft, a division of THQ, Inc. Online Store
This game was also very fascinating. You try your best to reduce your carbon emissions while simultaneously providing needed energy to your citizens. It's a great game, however once you figure out how to win it becomes too easy.

I also enjoy Commander-in-Chief and Risk II.

I've decided to join Cyber Nations, a massive online multi-player government strategy game realm. It's free so come along! My username is Elijah Cole.

There's a political expert that reduces the cost of television advertising by 25%. Thing is, you can hire more than one. Hire five of them, and every TV ad you run in that state makes you money.

I'm passing fond of Democracy 2.

Sock and Awe!
Oh wait, that probably wasn't what you meant...

Have you played Jennifer Government? Don't know if it's quite what you're looking for, since it's not competitive in any way, but it's still pretty interesting.

On the last forum I belonged to I had this daydream of using the social groups as a foundation for a political game of virtual politics in a virtual country...

Several levels of groups would be created...
Party groups - in which like minded people discuss solutions for problems we face, then elect a representative to the Congressional group
Congressional groups - would then debate the merits of their position and see if workable compromises can be reached.

Just the basics, please feel free to expand on the idea....

Bioshock has is a political theme in that the whole game is a social critique of Objectivism. The Assassin's Creed series has a lot of historical political intrigue.

The Tropico games have a strong political element to them, despite being essentially city simulators. They are fantastic games of the genre.
