We need to put a band aid on our immigration problem now before we ruin our economy. (1 Viewer)

All undocumented workers should have a hearing and if they are employed without a criminal history then should be giving a green card and citizenship in one year.
That's one of the dumbest ideas I've read in a long time. For an example of just one reason, people who have a criminal record check and then get a visa to come here legally have to wait five years and then pass a test to become a citizen.

That doesn't really help the undocumented problem we have today. How about if they have worked here for five years without a criminal record?

Our current legal immigration system is simply inaccessible to most people. If these people had legal immigration options, they'd take them.

Some fair comments here from both sides of the argument. There is a fundamental truth that among the illegal migrants here there are a lot of good people who are valuable to the economy. There are also plenty that we would really rather deport back to their home countries asap. What that means is that the current 'one size fits all' approach Trump has designed is needlessly harmful to our own economy. It seems that Trump has been reasonably successful in securing the border for now, so we actually have room to manage the deportations in a much better way, as we are not so much in fear of creating precedents that encourage more illegal migration. What I would consider doing is offering those who are in regular employment, paying taxes etc, and valued by their (credible) employers, a work visa for a period long enough to allow their migration status to be properly reviewed. Those people must self declare and get themselves into this system. If not, they get deported when caught. The review should then focus on that persons value to the US economy. Some might get Green cards, while others might be offered permanent visas allowing them to return to the US for seasonal work when that have a job offer to return to. Let's keep the people we need and should be valuing instead of demonizing them for 'being brown'.

In other words, forget the political rhetoric and take a pragmatic approach to keeping those that add value to our economy and society. We also desperately need more children coming through the US schooling system to become tomorrows workforce, so a migrant having children to be raised in the US is actually a good thing if the parents are already useful members of society.

Do a fair bit of work for a guy who employs quite a few H2B workers on rotation year round. All by the books. Lawyer on retainer.
He drives them to and from the Rio when stipulations require.

No one has any worries.

They all are documented? Then that is not part of the problem.

They have the same options taken by a million or more legal immigrants every year.

It's too late. The US needs to stupid a lot before it figures it out again.

How about - no.

We will instead follow the law. Illegal aliens will be deported.

Figure what out? That we need illegal aliens to ensure absolute power for the Stalinist democrats?

???

Why should they be rewarded for being illegal aliens?

What about the other 11 million?
I'll be happy to donate to a fund to buy bus tickets to either border where, having crossed it, they can apply for an immigrant visa.
