Walz's "attack" on Vance for graduating from Yale?

Is it "fake populism" to attend a Ivy League school though?
it's fake populism to:

1. *Use* your Ivy League schooling to secure a job at a hedge fund (i.e., be in the top 1% of income earners);

2. Attack "Ivy League" professors for being commie-pinko, woke haters of whites;

3. Try to sell yourself as a "man of the people" who has everyday problems just like the rest of the "average joes."

Clear enough for you yet?

Did he get it solely because he went to Yale? If I attend a smaller state school and become a venture capitalist, is that real populism because I went to the lowly state school?

Has Vance done that?

And is that because he went to Yale?

Not yet. What role does Yale play in it?

OMG!!

a candidate for one party says something negative about a candidate from another party?

THIS constitutes an ATTACK and it has never happened before in the history of politics.

(or Rightwingers are such whiny babies they can't take what they themselves like to dish out)

So if he went to Yale but came out to do charity work instead, that would not be elitist? Is it only elitist when you go to Yale and then go on to a job with high pay?

Really, what part does going to Yale have anything at all to do with it then?

Why are you so fixated on Yale when it's only one of the three things that Walz pointed out?

Going to an Ivy League school is "elite" - not many people in a given year can make the claim.

Does that make someone "elitist"? I don't know. Did Walz call JD an "elitist"?

Why are you so concerned over an apparent op-ed piece from the Washington Examiner?

IMHO, this was a partisan attack having nothing to do with race.
You think DEI is only about race? That no white male who is not rich and privileged should be included in diversity. Diversity includes a composite of the whole - women, poor, middle-class, race, etc. But, apparently racism works to get right-wingers to condemn it.

Is it "fake populism" to attend a Ivy League school though?
It is fake populism (no scare quotes required) for a member of the elite to pretend they are not a member of the elite.

Especially when they are the made-to-order puppet of other elites.

Look at the bolded. Would Walz's message been better or worse if he left the Yale portion completely out? I bet the former.

It is not "elitist" to go to an Ivy League school by itself. Certainly not in the case of Vance who took advantage of needs based financing.

Great. Your opinion on what would have been "better" is duly noted. Be sure to pass it along to Walz' comms dept.

This, overall, is an effective criticism aimed at blue collar Midwesterners, IMO. If you feel otherwise, cool.

Again, this is an op-ed coming from the Washington Examiner - I would never expect it to be complimentary of Walz.

It's part of the package. Walz included it all because it's a package deal. Does graduating from Yale tend to entrench someone in the elites? Yes, and Vance then went on to have a career in VC, that's how he used his Yale law degree, and he made a ton of money that got him backed by others in the elites. It's not one thing, it's the package deal.

It's also not inherently a criticism. It's only viewed that way because Vance is a fake populist who's downplaying his elite status to pose as a hillbilly from Appalachia (spoiler - he didn't grow up in Appalachia) defender of the common man. Vance is perfectly able to embrace his Ivy League roots, and embrace his career as a VC, and embrace the 'elites' that back him, also in the VC world. If he doesn't do that, why not? Obama definitely embraced his "Ivy League" career, and then the GOP tried to trash that as affirmative action crap.

I don't care for this one from Walz. Call him weird for making comments about "childless cat ladies" or other weird things that MAGA believes, but this line of attack is not a good one imo
Didn't read offensive to me..he's contrasting himself with Vance, which is appropriate.

Walz represents middle America, rural America, the average working class person, military veteran, hunter, and all around normal, nice guy who has done good with a humble life style/career.

Vance in contrast, is Thiel's pawn..representing the richest of the rich looking to tear down government, so they can be have more power, project 2025 and such.
Vance has literally said he's a never Trumper, and compared Trump to Hitler. He's an Ivy league graduate, trying to act like he's in touch with the average voter, and that he's a better representation of the average American than Walz.

Of course, this coming from the party that things a billionaire celebrity felon like Trump is a man of the people, out to save America...

Did he get it solely because he went to Yale? If I attend a smaller state school and become a venture capitalist, is that real populism because I went to the lowly state school?
Solely? Of course not. That's a straw man, and you know better. But does the degree from an ELITE institution and all the connections you get at the elite institution Yale make the odds about 100x more likely? Of course. THAT IS WHY PEOPLE FIGHT SO HARD TO GET INTO THOSE SCHOOLS. Jared's daddy coughed up a couple $million to get Junior into Harvard (as I recall).
Has Vance done that?

And is that because he went to Yale?

Bottom line is Vance can embrace his Yale degree, VC, etc. if he wants and if/when he does, how is that an attack on Vance? Oh, it doesn't fit into the 'common man from Appalachia' narrative? Too bad.

Nope, gonna keep criticizing either side when they do something wrong. Walz is using it as an election ploy, so it matters to this election.
BOTH SIDES!!

And in the meantime Vance trashed the military career of Walz with lies. See, both sides!! I mean, Walz truthfully telling voters about Vance's elite status is really unfair when you think about it!!

The way you're digging your heels in about this nothingburger issue suggests that it's personal to you. Did you go to Yale?
No. But here's the thing: we want to give MAGA a hard time about stating that higher education is not the best, and that is the right thing to do. If people have an opportunity to get a college degree from anywhere, much less an Ivy League school, and that education is of benefit to their career, kudos.

Therefore, if we want to mock MAGA for such statements, how is it not hypocritical to criticize Vance for going to Yale? Is Walz not doing the same thing MAGA does? Yes.
