I think that this specific account about not going to the ceremony doesn't have to be entirely accurate for someone to have heard Trump make disparaging remarks about U.S. troops around the time of this event. For instance, someone like John Kelly could have talked to Trump briefly before or after this meeting where everyone else was at and heard Trump say these things.
2. I also know that this article detailed several incidents where Trump made several disparaging remarks about U.S. troops, and these other incidents have been confirmed by other outlets, so to fixate on this one thing misses the broader point made in the article that Trump has demonstrated a pattern of behavior showing disrespect to our troops.
3. It's entirely possible this article could be wrong on this point. But to be honest, I trust anonymous high-ranking former administration and pentagon officials more than I trust Trump. To be honest, I'd be more inclined to trust any random person off the street than Trump on any particular topic of conversation.

It’s filled with losers.” In a separate conversation on the same trip, Trump referred to the more than 1,800 marines who lost their lives at Belleau Wood as “suckers” for getting killed. to make people like you believe that crap.

An article that starts with Trump rejected the idea of the visit because he feared his hair would become disheveled in the rain, is definitely something that you would believe. :lol:

You dont understand the military if you think some high ranking officers would not sit on this sort of information. Especially if they preferred not to get into a dispute with the President over something that is terrible to say but not really detrimental. In fact, it would be more likely to harm morale than help anything since it is not an impeachment offense.

It's incredible to me that the concept of "anonymous" sources is somehow confused with meaning the reporter doesn't know who they are. The Atlantic knows its sources. Same people who give so much credence to "Q-Anon", get so bent out of shape about anon sources in journalism.

There is no indication in the article that the ceremony incident had more than one source. There were multiple sources for the other incidents detailed in the article, but there is no reference to multiple sources concerning the ceremony incident.

If Trump loved and respected our troops he would confront Putin about Russia's bounty payments to the Taliban to kill our troops.

If Trump loved and respected our veterans he would have already had the VA in tip-top shape, instead of the mess it continues to be.

If Trump loved and respected our troops he would have made sure military installations around the world had the necessary equipment, buildings, and services instead of stealing the funds from the military to build his stupid wall, that never has any hope of being built.

Bolton didn't necessarily debunk it. All he said was he didn't hear Trump say it.

My mom was worried when I signed up but her and my dad still signed the papers (I was 17). I remember telling her "Mom, there's not even anything going on right now", which was true, it was '98.

Although, my first deployment was when the USS Cole got hit by terrorists. My mom told me later, when we finally got a chance to call back home (we were in the Persian Gulf, had just pulled out of Dubai a week before), that the first she heard about the Cole was at work and either another nurse or patient pointed out there was a ship in the Persian Gulf that got hit by terrorists (no name or type at that time) and some Sailors in Engineering spaces had been killed (she knew I worked in those spaces). It scared her to tears. She said she later the next day found out it was a smaller ship, not mine, but she was so frightened that night.

My parents would never think of disowning any of their children for joining the military. Thats horrible. And for a President to have (allegedly) said it is just wrong. Its not something you disown your children for doing unless you really don't have respect for that type of career choice.

for sure, as a parent, I could not be more proud of him serving this country he loves. I still worry about lots of things in reference to my children...but that is a mom for you.
