Luna, R, telling Democrats that their candidate will never be Speaker is really something.

That's fear.

Over/under for 40 votes?

As paranoid, delusional, and conspiratorial the 20 are, they probably imagine McCarthy colluding with the Dems for votes to get around them!

At the least, it has to be on their minds.

In fact, if I were the Dems I'd consider making a public appeal to work with them, even if it's a hollow promise. I'd get in their heads. Better yet - I'd leak that private back-door discussions are taking place!

Here's a way to end this:

McCarthy proposes a rule (to be passed by a majority of Congress) that the next vote will go to the plurality winner.

Then all Republicans (except four) would have to vote for McCarthy.

That would put the onus on each and every Republican to vote for McCarthy or else the Democrat Jeffries would win.

Haha! The way these clowns do math? They'll blow it, and give it to Jefferies!

Is anyone else shocked and surprised this is what happens when you let the animals run the zoo?

Wait! How can McCarthy propose a rule? Until Congress is in session? There has to be a Speaker to call Congress to session!

Seriously, though, wouldn't that work? Certainly the Democrats would vote for a plurality vote for Speaker. All of McCarthy's supporters should. It would really put the 21 dissenters in the fire.

Watching the proceedings, it appears that normal parliamentary rules apply, in which any person can rise to be heard. Then they can propose a course of action, which they are doing before every vote for Speaker.

MSNBC Capitol Hill reporter claims no one of substance besides McCarty wants the Speaker's job anymore!

Never know, could be. We've surmised as much here in this thread, recently.

If reports are accurate, McCarthy has hollowed out the position.

I dunno'. I think the Dems are loathe to lend a hand or become complicit in this mess.

I do have doubts the GOP can all be herded to execute the math to the precision required, though.

What's telling/interesting/fascinating/cringe...is that, under normal circumstances, one would think that the party would huddle and tell Kevin to give it up. But apparently no such conversations have taken place, or if they have, they've not really been serious enough or involved enough of the right people to be taken seriously. So that begs the question: why hasn't the party establishment (and even not-so-establishment) told McCarthy to give it up?

I'm guessing b/c those supporting McCarthy realize that the MAGA 20's demands and their influence is so toxic that McCarthy getting voted down 10, 20, 100 times...is worth it.

It's not like he did it alone, but yeah.

You basically have a bunch of a-holes out for themselves, no different than the Trump Administration.
