[W:241] McConnell throws cold water on Dems' proposed 1/6 Commission

You are demonstrating the outcome bias to sugarcoat your downplaying of the worst attack on US soil since 9/11. Maybe you don't have a problem with those attacks? 🤷‍♂️

That's a hell of an accusation from someone who seems to not have much of a problem with the worst attack on US soil since 9/11. But go on, if you want to embarrass yourself even more with your insane rhetoric, be my guest. I always appreciate free entertainment. :)

Stop lying. The poster above has condemned the 1/6 attacks.

Correct. I have a bias toward things that actually happened, as opposed to things you think would have happened in an alternate timeline.

And with those words, GJ proves that he has no problem with logical flaws...from himself.

I have denounced political violence in all forms.

By downplaying the worst attack on US soil since 9/11 with your pathetic bothsiderism, no, you aren't. :)

You have indicated that some forms of political violence are acceptable. Which forms of political violence do you find acceptable?

Loose lips sink ships. I'm not the one shitting all over the forums defending the worst attack on US soil since 9/11 or playing the both-sides-did-it card. 🤷‍♂️

Let me demonstrate for you what an actual condemnation looks like:

THAT is a condemnation.

Where's yours?

And this was..... largely a bunch of weirdos barging into the Capitol (much like Kavanaugh protestors did year and a few months before), taking selfies. About the only thing that needs actual investigation is the sole dude who put out a couple pipe bombs the day before, and the person who shot the unarmed woman (it's not clear who he even worked for, let alone who he is).
Stay tuned to the commission report and read slowly. ;)

There was a lot of talk of a bipartisan 9/11-style commission to investigate 1/6. That commission had 5 Democrats and 5 Republicans and was actually bipartisan.
I'm actually fine with that.

I mean, Benghazi involved US personnel and troops, and a secret CIA operation and IIRC arms trade, and a long series of failures to increase security despite previous warnings and attacks.

I must have missed the "Kavanaugh protestors" breaking into the Capitol, carrying the flags of enemies of the United States, and chanting to kill someone. But I'm sure you can refresh my memory with a link.

Ole (S/I/T) McConnell is back! He acquits (S/I/T) Trump and then blabbers all the bad stuff (S/I/T) Trump did to cause the attack on our Capitol Building - now he's not for the pursuit of a justice commission into the insurrection. Guess (S/I/T) McConnell wants something(S) in return to garner his support. Does Pelosi really need (S/I/T) McConnell's blessing?

McConnell throws cold water on Dems' proposed 1/6 Commission (msn.com)

Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s bid to create a broad bipartisan review of the Jan. 6 insurrection is in peril after Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell slammed the proposal on Wednesday as “partisan by design.”

McConnell rejected a draft version of Pelosi’s proposed commission that would give Democrats a 7-4 majority on the panel, and he said any large-scale review of the insurrection must also include an analysis of broader political violence — a nod to GOP complaints about a wave of riots across the country last summer that followed the death of George Floyd at the hands of police. Expanding the commission's mandate that way would likely spark significant Democratic resistance.

“If Congress is going to attempt some broader analysis of toxic political violence across this country,” the Kentucky Republican said, “then in that case, we cannot have artificial cherry-picking of which terrible behavior does and does not deserve scrutiny.”

McConnell indicated that he would be open to a commission narrowly focused on security on the Hill.
Nancy's plan for a bipartisan commission is 7 democrats and 4 republicans.

I would say you're moving the goalposts, but you've kicked them down and wandered off the field like a dementia patient. Which types of violence are you OK with, Phys?

GhostlyJoe, having had his pathetic arguments shredded to pieces, uses the only tactic he has left: Petty insults.

Joe, for a hot minute, I actually got a little upset by your false accuation. But I quickly realized something. Put me right at ease. :) You know what it was?

You're projecting. :) You and I both know it, Joe. You're projecting your failure to unconditionally and without any whataboutism condemn the 1/06 attacks. And because I beat you to the punch over a month ago, you stamp your feet, flail your arms, and resort to one of the most infantile tactics in the book: Projection.

You're more than welcome to engage me on a thread about ANNNTEEEFFAAAA on a thread that actually concerns it. This thread is about the 1/06 attacks, and you deliberately and intentionally fail to properly acknowledge that.

You can say anything you like. Even a Donald Trump sized temper tantrum won't get you out of this one. ;)

So in other words, they didn't break into the Capitol, they didn't bear the flags of our enemies, and they didn't chant about killing anyone.

Maybe. I don't know. I wasn't at either one. For what its worth, even if they had, it would be permissible, because chanting and waving flags is protected speech. Some on that day were arrested for being in the capitol illegally. Political violence is wrong. Do you agree?

Get ready to get accused of supporting political violence.

Don't play the bothsiderist card. It won't end well for you.
So you're OK with political violence for those who agree with you on some subjects. Which subjects is it OK to commit violence over?

Yes, we can see that you're triggered. What type of political violence is OK, Phys?

Wait until they read the commission's final report. WARNING: Stick fingers into your ears to block out the loud wailing.

Tired of commissions and reports and the rest of this nonsense.
We know for a fact that this is the planning stages of the next civil war.
No report, no commission, no investigation, is going to accomplish squat.

These Trumplicans have attacked YOUR country, MY country, OUR country.
They attacked the United States.
It was and still is an act of war, and the war is still ongoing, and it's time people accepted the fact that this is a long-range plan, it's coordinated, it's well planned and it is well funded, and it's not going to stop until the Trumplican ringleaders are exposed, defeated and destroyed, if the future of this democratic republic has any value to anyone which is worth saving.

Clearly Trumplicans don't think so, and their long-range plan sounds like a fifth column invasion from the inside.
And the goal is the end of democracy, simple as that.

Nobody said anything about protected speech.

Violence is wrong. Political protests are not wrong.

"Kavanaugh protestors" did nothing that compares with what the Trump supporting shit did on January 6.

I don't see anyone carrying weapons, false comparison, you should be embarrassed.

The Kavanaugh protesters were not armed. Most of the capitol protesters were not armed, either. There were plenty of armed folks at the violent protests over the summer. Just declaring comparison out of bounds doesn't bolster your point much.

I mean, we can take the nuggets of facts from these events and spin narratives. We can take the most-charitable or least-charitable interpretations of our opponents' words and actions. Regardless of what you believe, if we expand tools of state, those tools can be turned against you. Crafting a narrative is just too easy. Removing tools of abuse from those in power is much, much harder.

The point isn't who is righteous. The point is that it's easy to demonize. McConnell is right that that a partisan investigation will be incapable of seeking truth.

Yeah they WERE armed, and yeah they beat the shit out of a lot of cops and a lot of others, and their intent was to assassinate members of Congress and the VP. Those are facts.
No one is listening to your Kremlinized apologetics except your buddies.

True that. However, I suppose that painting by the numbers is what DC does despite what many of us witnessed live. Since Trumplicans will moan and groan every step of the way, mtns of records will still need to be established. Now that we're on the subject, what comes after the commission report? Will it be forwarded to the DoJ?
