[W:#23,579]Ukraine War Thread

Besides the announcement of 25% tariffs on India, if you read beyond the headline, the language of the executive order is quite interesting, especially in light of the fact that negotiations in Moscow concluded today:

“ I have received additional information from various senior officials on, among other things, the actions of the Government of the Russian Federation with respect to the situation in Ukraine. After considering this additional information, among other things

, I find that the national emergency described in Executive Order 14066 continues and that the actions and policies of the Government of the Russian Federation continue to pose an unusual and extraordinary threat to the national security and foreign policy of the United States.”

Hilarious! Zelensky more popular in America then Trump:

Volodymyr Zelensky is twice as popular in the United States as Donald Trump, according to a recent poll.

The Ukrainian leader enjoys 18 per cent net favourability, with the US president at 16 per cent net unfavourability.

The Gallup poll of 1,002 people’s opinions towards 14 “newsmakers” places Mr Zelensky in second place when it comes to favourability, behind the recently appointed Pope Leo XIV, the first American pontiff. Pope Leo’s net favourability stands at 46 per cent.

A good read. Surrenders could increase
The rotten bastard deserved death. I'm surprised it didn't.t come sooner.

So, nothing's changed much since WWII. At least they're consistent with their lack of respect for human life. The average Russian does have a tremendous love for the Motherland, but it appears the Russians hierarchy carefully select the cruelest misfits to command (not lead) troops. in battle. It's no wonder their troops wantonly kill innocent Ukrainians just because they can.

>Explosions and fires rocked Russia’s Krasnodar region early Thursday morning, Aug. 7, following a large-scale drone attack that reportedly hit an oil refinery and a military unit. Preliminary reports suggest that the Afipsky oil refinery was targeted by drones, resulting in a fire. Footage circulating on social media shows thick smoke rising from the site. Elsewhere, drones reportedly flew over Slavyansk-on-Kuban, where a fire broke out at military unit 61661 following the attack. In the Volgograd region, drones targeted the town of Surovikino where the railway station was reportedly hit.

I want 4 drone attacks on Russia every day this war drags on.

>A string of NATO state pledges to acquire mostly U.S. weapons to provide to Ukraine has marked a victory for President Donald Trump in his effort to strike a balance on shifting the burden of Washington's role in the war to European allies while maintaining a role in the conflict. NATO reported the following day that Denmark, Norway and Sweden had confirmed they would purchase $500 million worth of U.S.-sourced equipment. Both moves mark the first two tranches under the NATO-led Prioritized Ukraine Requirements List (PURL) initiative.<

Pledges are nice, but weapon deliveries to Ukraine is where the rubber meats the road.

>A luxury yacht worth an estimated $300 million which was seized from a sanctioned Russian oligarch will be auctioned next month. The 348-foot long vessel Amadea that belonged to the billionaire Suleiman Kerimov will go under the hammer in September. The yacht was seized in April 2022, months after the start of Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine and is currently docked in San Diego.

Proceeds from the sale should go to Ukraine. Kerimov is close to Putin and is on the Forbes 100 Richest People In The World.

>On Wednesday US President Donald Trump signed an executive order imposing an additional 25% tariff on India for buying Russian oil. At first glance, this may look like a major policy shift. By targeting India, Trump is — for the first time — officially acknowledging that Russia’s war is not just a regional conflict but a threat to US national security. In fact, Trump’s executive order explicitly states that Russia’s actions “continue to pose an extraordinary threat to the national security and foreign policy of the United States.” That’s the strongest anti-Russian statement he has made since returning to office. I remain skeptical.I remain skeptical.

1) Tariffs fit Trump’s worldview, not Ukraine’s needs.
2) The tariff level is modest.
3) India is unlikely to change course.

Trump’s executive order is a welcome change because it formally labels Russia’s aggression as an “extraordinary threat.” That acknowledgment matters — especially coming from someone who has long downplayed Ukraine’s plight and praised Putin. But beyond the symbolism, the policy impact is minimal. Tariffs on India won’t stop Russian oil exports, won’t end the bombing of Ukrainian cities, and won’t significantly weaken the Kremlin’s war machine. This is not a strategic realignment. It’s a tactical move dressed up as principle. Ukraine — and the world — will need more than symbolic tariffs if Russia is to be stopped.<

I agree with the author - Roman Sheremeta.

Far better than Biden administrations milquetoast response.
