[W:#23,579]Ukraine War Thread (1 Viewer)

Why are we letting Mike Johnson hold up aid to Ukraine? He should not be able to dictate foreign policy. Everyone knows the will of Congress is to get aid to Ukraine and that both Houses will approve it. How do we overthrow the fascist stopping Ukraine aid and helping Putin? How are we letting him get away with this? Isn't this supposedly a democracy? Where is the will of the people? It isn't being expressed due to the tyranny of the Speaker of the House being left to run roughshod over everyone else. We need a discharge petition or a sit-in.

We should see a discharge petition submitted to the House
Problem is, Ukraine aid would pass. Israel aid, another issue, with some Ds voting against
Either way, Johnson brings the bill to the house will or the petition will be voted on

GOP Senator Thom Tillis slaps Tucker Carlson down for his grocery store trip

Moscow's "incremental" victories in Ukraine are coming with "incredible" human losses, former CIA director and U.S. Army general David Petraeus has said, as Kyiv marks two years of full-scale war with no end in sight. "I don't know how Putin can abide this except that he is just such a cold-blooded, brutal autocrat, who has obviously no concern whatsoever for the wellbeing of his people, and certainly for the soldiers on the frontlines," Petraeus added.

Russian President Vladimir Putin's new military decrees re-establishing the Moscow and Leningrad Military Districts indicate he is preparing for a potential large-scale war with NATO in the future, a U.S.-based think tank has said. The other decree formally re-establishes the Leningrad Military District and the Moscow Military District, with the Leningrad Military District taking over most of the territory previously under the Russia's Northern Fleet and the Moscow Military District taking over most of the territory previously under the Western Military District, the Institute for the Study of War (ISW) said in its latest analysis of the conflict in Ukraine on Monday. Russian military analyst Yuri Fedorov previously told Russian investigative site Agentstvo that the recreation of the Leningrad Military District suggests that Russia is gearing up for possible conflicts with the Baltic States and NATO.

South Korea is experiencing a dramatic surge in asylum seekers from Russia, per a recent government report cited in the Korea Herald. In 2023, over 5,000 Russian nationals submitted refugee applications, a five-fold increase from the previous year's total of 1,038. This surge nearly matches the total number of Russian asylum seekers recorded over 26 years, from 1994 to 2019. Up to one million Russians had left the country, an Economist report stated in August 2023. Despite the surge in asylum applications, South Korea's approval rate for refugee status remains low despite the rise in applications. Out of 5,950 cases evaluated last year, only 1.7% (101 applicants) were granted refugee status.

When are you moving? Do you need help packing? I'm sure you'll get lots of volunteers.

None of this is refuting anything Tucker said

Know your enemy.

I read this and I am not sure who the enemy is. It sounds as if the article (with discussion over whether the word "blacklash" was used instead of "backlash" for some political purpose) states both Russians and Ukrainians were acting racist in Sri Lanka. That was demoralizing.

The main point Tucker made was that food is cheaper in Russia.

But what Tucker didn't tell his audience is that over 60% of Russians spend half of their salary on food, and have an average wage of $791 per month.

Macron is just plain stupid

It's reasonable to suggest Moscow is a world-class city, and one of the top cities in the world. To suggest it is much "nicer" than any major city is very subjective though. Also, there is more to Russia than Moscow. If you look past Moscow and the few other major cities in Russia you will find abysmal living circumstances. For example, 20% of Russians still do not have indoor plumbing. That's a problem. And, as noted above, the average wage of Russians is about $791 per month and 60% of Russians spend over half their salary on food. Russia is also ranked 52nd in the world in terms of Per Capita GDP.

One of our great senators, Senator John McCain, once described Russia as a gas station masquerading as a country. But I think it's more accurate to describe Russia as a shithole masquerading as a gas station masquerading as a country.

Travel 200 M from Moscow and see how the average Russian lives. Not well

That really doesn’t matter though. The point isn’t what Russians spend on food. The point is Americans are spending much more than they are used to because of the incompetence of the American regime.

anyone who’s been an adult four years or so remembers when a McDouble and mcchicken were 2 dollars

Have you ever been in Moscow?
No, I wish I did visit earlier, but now I have a newborn so international travel isn’t happening for a while. Maybe I will some day though

As has been pointed out by those not drinking MAGA Kool-Ade Russians spend a lot more of their monthly income on food than Americans

How is spending over half your monthly income on food a good thing?

You don't think it matters that wealthier economies tend to have a higher cost of living, but that relative to the average income the cost of food is actually lower in the U.S. and other wealthy economies?

You don't think it matters that while the cost of food is lower in Russia, over 60% of the Russian population spends half of their salary on food?

You don't think it matters that the average monthly wage in Russia is $791 dollar while the average monthly wage in the U.S. is well over $6,000?

Also, are you aware of how terrible Russia's inflation rate is compared to the U.S.? It was over 7% last November.

Do you know what the inflation rate in October was for the U.S.?

It was closer to 3%

What both you and Tucker are communicating is simply not true, especially as it relates to Russia.

It's not true.

It's a lie.

And did you know the U.S. economy is currently outperforming most other advanced economies in the world? Did you know that?

So what you and Tucker are saying is not true as it relates to Russia and it's not true as it relates to world!

And the only conclusion that informed people can arrive at, if they listen to Tucker Carlson, is that he is either a useful idiot or he is a liar.

Which do you think he is?

I get that people like Tucker Carlson want a more "conservative" America, I don't understand the profound ignorance or the disgusting lies, take your pick. It's one or the other. I don't understand it. It makes no sense to me.
